Post Match Fans' Opinion
Thought our performance was just about passable in the first half, but went in 2 goals down thanks to some calamitous defending. Second half was woeful, and the fans quite rightly made their feelings clear. Saying that...booing a young academy product who wasn't close to being the worst player on the pitch was a bit much.
Not sure where we go from here. No signs of progress since the end of last season tbh. Would rather we looked to bring through the likes of Tshibola and Taylor than continue with the journeymen Baird, Kelly et al.
Going forward we actually looked good. Adkins needs to persist with 4231/433 and not panic back to 442, i actually think the team shape today with Bridge & Drenthe coming in for Kelly & Obita would be the best line up. Would be nice for some of our signings to actually be fit. Quite clear that Bridge is oxf*rd and is in the last year of his career. We need cover at Left back. Kelly was awful today, but hes a right back. Also dont think Morrison should be club captain, not a leader.
POG & Gunter our best players. No goals came from down the right and Gunter should have 2 assists if Robson-Kanu had not have missed a sitter at 3-1. The squad quite clearly needed more investment. Where the oxf*rd is Anton.
Quotes From The Press
“We want seven,” chanted the Kop after Manchester City’s score against Norwich came up on the Hillsborough scoreboard.
It reflected the sense of fun and enjoyment that pervaded the ground as the Owls put an end to their run of misfortune.
Any kind of win would have done after 12 games without one, but this was simply exhilarating: five goals for the first time in three years and spectacular entertainment for an appreciative crowd. Wednesday made lots of chances and produced some cracking stuff going forward. Reading played their part with some slick football but defended poorly at times and were were given a lesson in finishing.
After half-time, the Royals came out all guns blazing, with Guthrie firing wide from 25 yards, while Hal Robson-Kanu spooned over the bar from a decent position.
Dave Jones' men then put themselves three goals to the good on 56 minutes.
Antonio then beat his man down the right side and drilled a cross to Wickham, who blasted the ball into the roof of the net.
It was five just after the hour mark, with Wickham and Fryatt combining before the latter raced through on goal and lifted the ball over McCarthy. Reading managed a consolation goal just before the end as Pogrebnyak was brought down in the box by Reda Johnson, with substitute Le Fondre placing his penalty past Kirkland.
