Player Clear Out Begins

A number of players have been told that their contracts will not be renewed as they expire this summer. Reading manager Adkins looks set to put his mark on the squad by starting a clear out that would leave him plenty of room to get in his choice of players, before the new season gets underway. Noel Hunt and Nicky Shorey top the list of players who have been confirmed as leaving the club. It's a shame to see Noel Hunt leave the club - a player that's always put in complete effort and given us some memorable moments. Hunt has had five good years at the club and scored 39 goals in over 150 appearances for the Royals.

Nicky Shorey arrived back at Reading at the start of this season and put in some excellent performances after winning a place in the starting eleven. He picked up plenty of votes in the Hob Nob man of the match voting and finished fourth overall across the whole season. He fell out of favour as Reading dropped deep into relegation trouble earlier this season and failed to regain his form or a regular place in the side. Shorey leaves alongside fellow full back Ian Harte. Simon Church and Jay Tabb will also be leaving. Tabb was told months ago that we wouldn't be at Reading next season and is expected to join Ipswich Town this summer.

Alex Pearce is also expected to leave the club, having failed to agree a new contract. The club are also expected to come under pressure in the transfer market for goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and super-sub Adam Le Fondre. Jason Roberts is rumoured to be leaving subject to agreeing terms to end his contract. A number of other players are currently in negotiations for new or revised contracts as it looks to be a busy summer for Reading and they prepare for life in the Championship.
