Team news

With Hahnemann returning to Fulham after they refused an extension to his loan period, we could find Ashdown back in goal, unless another player is found or Hahnemann is signed on a full deal. Ashdown will be keen for another chance, so it might not be a bad thing if we find him back between the posts.

Reading - from: Ashdown, Murty, Williams, Mackie, Shorey, Hughes, Jones, Gamble, A.Smith, Rougier, Igoe, Cureton, Forster, Henderson, Parkinson, Robinson.

Blackpool - from: Barnes, Coid, Reid, Marshall, Day, Jaszczun, Bullock, Collins, Wellens, Hills, Simpson, Murphy, Fenton, Walker, Pullen, O'Kane.

Form Guide

Reading have gone from fifth to first in the table after a great run of two draws followed by four straight league victories.

Reading wins: 11
Blackpool wins: 9
Draws: 9
Figures include League, League Cup, and FA Cup fixtures only.

Last season the Royals were a Division above Blackpool. However, we met them in Division Two in both the previous seasons with a complete share of the points, and goals, over the four fixtures. Earlier this season we won 2-0 on the opening day of the season with Parkinson and Forster starting the season in the right way by finding the back of the net.

Pre-Match Opinions
I sense for the first time a sense of real optimism and belief about Reading and the promotion race. Over the past few weeks I have felt for the first time as if we are becoming the dominant force in division two and have the capability to win the title and beat all who stand in our way. I have had several glasses of red wine before composing this, but I have to say it is not the alcohol which is giving me the courage to predict that Reading have finally awoken, its the performance on the pitch, its the commentary on the radio, and its the positive comments on this web site. Even SDR must be quietly feeling that our time has come and the team the fans have been desperate to see have finally arrived. A big stadium and all the trappings are not enough, what the true football pundit wants to see, is flowing football and a team who on top of their game, playing with confidence and flair and in control. But football does not always go to the script and on Saturday with their defence at the weekend having been punctured three times at home, Blackpool are bound to put ten men behind the ball and come for the point as Port Vale did. Pardew and Dillon have got the Royals on a run playing good football winning games and up for every occasion. I am sorry lads for all my good words Saturday will be another hard match as Stoke found on Sunday at Northampton, and every fixture from hear on in will be tough. Reading are without Hanamann who has been a huge part of the recent run of form, his distribution was a lesson of where in the past Reading goal keepers have failed to deliver and I hope his legacy will have rubbed off on the future Royals keepers. What would be nice on Saturday is some goals and another sound performance from the team. Come on lads don't get carried away, stick to the game plan and put three more points on the board before the show down with Wigan. Praise must go to Pardew and Dillon.
