Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Very interesting read Maff- reminded me of a lot of players I had wiped from my memory. A few who I didn't notice you covering: Ji was joined on that two-year scholarship (not a trial) by Nam Tae-Hee and Kim Won-Sik. Nam has 44 caps for South Korea and currently plays for Al-Sadd in Qatar. Kim plays...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Obviously based off estimations but think we'd have a team similar to this had McDermott stayed: Al Habsi Gunter McShane Cooper Obita McCleary Evans Williams New Signing Kermorgant Rakels Difficult to say, but I don't think it would have looked *too dissimilar to Stam's with Al Habsi, Gunter, Obita...

Re: Mark Bowen as DoF

As far as I can tell, Mark Cartwright was the technical director at the time (and still is). Bowen was just assistant manager. Perhaps an expert would know better what the dynamic between them was and how it changed over time.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Only if you ignore Stam's second season. Easily conceivable that he could have take us to 12th and 8th. Stam's second season was bad largely due to some of our worst recruitment since the Burns era. Bod was our only decent striker, Beerens and Al-Habsi got homesick, at least three players had caree...

Re: Mark Bowen as DoF

Some Stoke fan on Twitter says he would be a terrible DoF. Something about signings made under his watch while there. He seemed to have a huge hand in our up turn in results what with all the formation shifts to counter teams. Their transfers in during Hughes' first few seasons are incredible :o Ma...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Very very hard to imagine that McDermott would have done as good a job as Stam.

Re: Are we screwed?

Assuming that there are few if any signings I think we have to be realistic that if the squad as it is now can finish 21st or better next season that would be a success. Then at the end of next season another whole load of high earners will leave - which might provide a bit more wriggle room for ne...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Wouldn't get too carried away with these rumours. If it's true then I would guess we think can get a fee for Southwood due to his status, but that Ward is actually around the same level and we don't have room for them both. I don't know much about our U18 goalkeepers from last season, but Ward as fi...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

I don't think there's any reason to fret just yet. Most clubs still haven't started their business and the only newsworthy transfer - excluding pre-arranged ones - has been Jovic to Madrid. All business done before the start of July seems completely unrealistic on Gomes' part (the start of August mi...

Re: Rumour - Patrick Bauer

One issue to bear in mind is that episode 1s in America are different to this country - they're often a low-budget test run which bears little resemblance to the final show. A particularly good example of this is the American remake of the Office. Episode 1 is a cut and paste reworking of the Britis...

Re: Speculation - Rio Ave players / Portuguese

Would love Coentrao but suspect there would be competition, probably from the Middle East and China if nothing else. Buatu doesn't look like the solution - only 1.87m so doesn't have the same physical presence as Miazga, he made no appearances in two years at Fulham, and he's only played 11 games f...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Loader and Barrett have been called up by England U20 and Ireland U21 respectively so we have three players at the Toulon tournament. Josh Sims is also playing for England and so are a few of the young players we've been linked to on loan. Dwight McNeil looks like the star man.

Re: Rumour - Danny Loader

For what it's worth Vic I completely understood your point. You were saying that Loader can't be compared to Owen in terms of stature and potential rather than saying that they're carbon copies of each other. For what it's worth I think the nitpicking was unnecessary and they're close enough stylist...

Re: Rumour - Danny Loader

I wouldn't say Loader is a raumdeuter. For one thing his movement isn't very effective, particularly in the box - he doesn't have the same knack for being in the right place for a tap-in that Mueller/Dele/Callejon do. He's also much more graceful and good at retaining possession. Raumdeuters are all...

Re: Value the Squad

Jaakola's stats there are incredible. Westwood has been the best goalkeeper in the league for nearly a decade so no surprise to see him top, and Randolph is Ireland's goalkeeper. But Jaakola (and Martinez for that matter) are ahead of Butland, Henderson, Krul, Camp, Johnstone, Castilla, etc. There's...

Re: Rumour - Matt Clarke

Thanks URZ. Hes a footballer most football fans of clubs below the pl would know I doubt that very much! Most Championship and League 2 clubs care less about League One than Premier League fans care about the Championship. I'm afraid that I personally couldn't name a single player currently playing ...
