Re: Celtic Eye Moore

It might be more that Celtic is the right level for him. I personally don't think he's good enough to start week in - week out in the Prem. Which means his hopes of playing at that level are either someone buys him as back up (a la Brighton last season) or he's bought by a promotion challenging cham...

Re: Celtic Eye Moore

The key to our survival last season was the core three of Martines, Moore and Miazga. If we start in August with none of them i'm really not hopeful for our chances.. If the club needs the £8m then it's going to have to take it. But unless a miracle occurs and we bring in two experienced CBs for no ...

Re: Are we screwed?

I would say that without the loan players our squad is below the standard required to stay in the Championship. Not by a lot - and a decent manager with a good club spirit could keep us up without too much trouble. But it also wouldn't take much for us to spiral into being the worst team in the divi...

Re: Financial Fair Play

Also there's a question if footballing success is just dependent on who has the richest owner than what's the point? Reading could spend a decade working on their academy, building a squad, growing a supporter base and creating a fantastic team - only for their rivals to come along and offer all our...

Re: Rival Watch

Fairly happy with this season.

Liverpool didn't win the league.

Utd humiliated

Leeds humiliated

Hopefully Spurs trophyless.

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Jaakkola did better than any of us expected him to do. He was a cheap punt who more than paid his fee and wages during a time we needed any little break we could get. A lot of the saves he made helped us survive this season. Wish him the best. He was pretty dreadful when I saw him at Derby. Just ma...

Re: Promotion team 'must haves'

Loan players were once considered a hindrance. I notice that has changed in the second half of this season. They got us out of the sh*t. In general you don't want to be dependent on any more than 1 or 2 loan players; and ideally they should be players you have a realistic chance of buying. Otherwis...

Re: Promotion team 'must haves'

Maybe this is old-fashioned thinking - but I believe that a team really needs that holding defensive midfielder who everyone trusts. The Makelele figure. I'm not sure we've had one since Leigertwood. Having a real goal threat from midfield is important in drawing defenders away from the strikers. Fu...

Re: Club 1871 - the What, When, Where, How, Who & Why Thread

https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2019/may/season-tickets-2019-20--join-us-for-the-brand-new-challenge-ahead/ Following an unprecedented level of interest since its supporter-initiated inception a little more than a year ago, we are delighted to announce that Club 1871 is very much here to stay. And...

Re: STs for season 2019/2020

Huge respect to the club for these arrangements; they are more than generous.

I would like to see a maximum 'on the day' price of £20 for all parts of the ground; but I appreciate that season ticket holders might start feeling as though there's no enough difference with what they pay.

Re: Next Season's Squad.

The issue is that in any one season you'll have a number of teams receiving parachute payments and a few more whose owners are rolling the dice and spending significantly more than they earn. So even if Reading were able to boost their income up towards those of the 'big boys', in all likelihood our...

Re: Nigel Howe CEO statement

Did no one else read that and get the impression that we will be selling a lot and buying very little during the summer? Impression I have is that though a lot will be moved on by various means (both youngsters and established “stars”) the squad is going to be invested in sensibly. You don’t necess...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

If we let Rinomhota go for £4m there would surely be uproar.

Whereas £4m for Loader would be a very acceptable figure.

Re: Financial Fair Play

Don’t get this late payment of players/staff at any club. Don’t businesses have payroll and HR staff that process the wages to be paid to employees each month a week or so before payment so when the actual day comes the systems just automatically run the relevant job? Or in this day and age does ev...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Rumours that Popa has agreed a perm deal with Ludogrets also mention that we might be interested in Livingstone 'Keeper Liam Kelly for 50k. Apparently a 'modern-day' keeper who is good with the ball at his feet, so would fit Two Liam Kellys there's only 2 Liam Kellys ... He's from Livingstone He's ...

Re: Financial Fair Play

A bit concerning if the club doesn't have enough cash on hand to pay one month's wages . . . Yeah this is my concern. As Hendo says I know they have money but its a worry that there isn't enough kept here to pay the players. Although I guess that rich people never want to have money just sitting ar...

Re: STs for season 2019/2020

Why would any fan want season ticket prices to increase? Theoretically because they think the club could use increased revenue. And because they think the tickets are underpriced in terms of reasonable value. If you think about it though - it's a perverse situation where ordinary people want to han...
