Re: Women's World Cup 2023

I watched the first half of Australia against Ireland. It was dire.

Re: England - the future....

First of all, congratulations to you all. I admit I was hoping Demark would win last night, but England certainly deserved it over the 120 minutes. Sunday will be very interesting indeed but either way, this summer will now be one most of you will remember forever. I am pretty jealous. The penalty w...

Re: Euro 2020

I am watching the game with German commentary and the commentor (who is dreadful btw) just mentioned that Kane had two touches of the ball in the first 30 minutes.

He'll finish the game with a hat-trick.

Re: Euro 2020

Oh no, that is Frank Rijkaard. Oh shit, yeah. I wasn't 100% sure so I googled "Ruud Gullit Rudi Voller" and the image you posted was the first one which came up. To be fair I always confused them back in the day. What a team the early 90's Dutch side were btw. To think, Ireland were some ...

tulip
It is a true rivalry on the pitch (off the pitch they quite like each other).

Until it's the Dutch person's round and s/he does a runner. It's a little known fact in the UK (yes, I am calling it a fact) that the Dutch are the Scottish of mainland Europe.

Re: Euro 2020

Fixed it for you The Dutch hate the Germans. It's mutual. It really is. In purely footballing terms, Germans would also much prefer to beat (say) Italy than England. They've beaten Italy once (on penalties) at a major tournament or in qualifying but never in 90 minutes. I watched England against Cr...

Re: Euro 2020

Streaker with rainbow flag ran on during the Hungarian national anthem Big dick? I didn’t see it. But as they are probably German almost certainly! He was fully dressed. He was more of a pitch-invader than a streaker. Anyway, St Pauli, I am sure you have had to answer this question a million times,...

Re: England - the future....

I know our side of the draw looks easier, but I don't exactly fancy our chances against: Germany Netherlands Wales Denmark Sweden I fancy your chances against all of them. France, Spain and Italy are another level. But then, we are both glass half-empty sort of people. You are worried that England ...

Re: Euro 2020

Also happy to see Hungary gone but the difficult path of France and then Spain that I had hoped for for England has quickly evaporated. Belgium, Portugal, France, Italy and Spain all on the other side of the draw, I am beginning to fancy England's chances.

Simmops Portugal need to score 1 for us to play Hungary?

Would it not be France in second? Superior goal difference to Hungary?

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Yeah, SGE are my team - lived over the road from FSV when we first moved here and went to a couple of games but love going to the Waldstadion, it's a great experience. A trip down for the Fürth game sounds great, not been there yet, so may make it easier to persuade the Mrs that we need to visit th...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

First leg of the Bundesliga play off. Cologne 0-1 Holstein Kiel Second leg Holstein Kiel 1 Cologne 5 Ingolstadt beat Osnabruck to get promoted to 2. Bundesliga. I really do not agree with the play-off system here in Germany. It worked out for Ingolstadt this year but last year, they failed (extreme...

Re: World Cup 2018

Indeed. It's asking for a bit much but I would love it if NI & ROI both qualified. The first World Cup I really watched (to the point of obsession) was Spain 1982. ROI were still some years from qualifying for a WC (although we came extremely close that time, only losing out to France on goal-di...

Re: World Cup 2018

NI - Switzerland
Croatia - Greece
Denmark - ROI
Sweden - Italy

I thought that Denmark would be our best bet but we'll see. Still, happy to avoid Croatia & Italy!

Re: Who did you get in the sweeps?

I bought the last two tickets in the Sweeps in a pub I frequent - one for me and one for a female friend from Belgium (who wasn't present). I got Switzerland. She got Belgium. I admit I tried to bribe the barman into letting me swap but he wasn't having any of that.

Memorable International Debuts

Marcus Rashford's recent debut against Australia started a conversation in the pub the other night about impressive international debuts. By far the most impressive that we came up with (I admit it was not my contribution) was that of Dieter Müller. He made his West German international debut in the...

Re: Coldest away end in Football

Well, I live in Germany (have I mentioned that before?). January 16th 2010 (I think), I was at a game between Greuther Fürth and 1. FC Kaiserslautern and it was -14°C according to the 'big' screen. Game was stopped in the middle of the second half because the 'Lautern fans were throwing snowballs (r...

Re: Champions League Thread 2015/2016

Arsenal shouldn't be in this competition anyway - a shame for English football. Crystal Palace or West Ham would have a much better chance against Barcelona. Tbh, that's the sort of bitter stuff I'd post ( and mean it). Hi Starfers btw, miss you. Well, I was paraphrasing (and teasing) one of your m...
