Re: VAR

I just don't think, and never have, that the negative impacts are really worth the very few decisions that might be changed because of it. At the moment, no, I'd probably agree that they aren't - 15 minutes additional time added in yesterday's game, most of which was for VAR checks. But the problem...

Re: VAR

Agree with Vic. Football is very much stop and start these days. Just look at the amount of injury times in many games these days. VAR will take time but surely it has to be a fairer way of ensuring the right decisions are made and thereby reducing decisions going the way of “bigger” teams. As for ...

Re: VAR

Football's laws are, at least in my opinion, a lot more subjective than those other sports too. This remains a red herring, in my view. If football is a subjective game then VAR or not it remains subject to the opinion of the referee in many decisions that the officials make. VAR doesn't change tha...

Re: VAR

One of my particular bugbears with it is, when a player MAY be offside and play continues, if a goal is scored it’s reviewed. If, however, the attack results in a corner from which a goal is scored, no review. Still offside, still wrong, but different result. It also just opens up the chance for a ...

Re: VAR

Agreed, GDS works and it should work for offsides but for anything else it is wrong to use it. It isn't like cricket or tennis where there are no real grey areas. It can't work for offsides because offside is a subjective decision it mostly isn't though... apart from phase of play which mostly isn'...

Re: VAR

The problem with VAR, for me, is that unlike the other sports video is used in quite effectively football is a fluid game with relatively few stops in play compared to the actual action. Tennis, Cricket, and Rugby are all stop start games where a passage of play that might need review is book-ended ...

Re: VAR

I just find it funny that VAR is meant to eliminate controversial decisions and endless debate over referee calls and instead it has just replaced it with some different and even more controversial decisions and even more debate. I called it ages ago. Football has too many grey areas for this syste...

Re: The Non - League thread

Im sure it used to be 4 down, with 2 up from each of div 1 east & west. But I guess the reduced size of the div 1's means they've cut promotion places. It might've been, and would make some sense from a Hellenic point of view but I think it may have just changed for this season because of the F...

Re: The Non - League thread

Reading City finished 2nd bottom in the Hellenic League but seem to have kept their place. Anyone know what happended there? It should be a 20 team league with 2 relegated. They finished 18th so it shouldn't really be a relegation spot. I believe they were waiting a while for confirmation though.

Re: VAR

From the limited view I got it certainly wasn't a clear and obvious error as it looked debatable whether it was a foul.

Granted, i paid very little attention to the two replays I saw as I was walking past the telly so I may be wrong.

Re: The footballer gets arrested thread

Not arrested, but Neymar accused of rape over the weekend and so he's released a video of the ongoing WhatsApp conversations between him and his accuser, including a fair amount of filth she's sent his way. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-48539113 More developments.

Re: VAR

So err the VAR decision in the Portugal - Switzerland match was 'interesting' A decision that would never have happened had the ref nit been able to watch it back on tele I only saw 1 or 2 replays but it looked a very soft penalty. The way events unfolded puts VAR in a bit of bad light though...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

genome Sarri reportedly off to Juve.

Could Allegri be the one to replace him?

He's obviously a good manager but would he be willing to take on the Chelsea job with the transfer embargo meaning he couldn't add to his squad.

Re: Champions League & Europa League 2018/19

It's hard to know who is trolling here and who's just a deranged Liverpool fan but to suggest that Harry Kane wouldn't get in the Liverpool team is so utterly batshit I don't even know where to start with it. He's one of the best strikers in the world  In the way Liverpool play, and all that F...

Re: Champions League & Europa League 2018/19

Did you intentionally talk about squad for Liverpool and team for Spurs? You've highlighted the front 3 for Liverpool as untouchable (from a squad point of view I take it) but also highlighted Kane and Son as players that could get into the Liverpool team from Saturday night. Would you pick either ...

Re: Champions League & Europa League 2018/19

How many of that Spurs team would get into Liverpool's side? Eriksen probably and possibly Alderweireld (neither of whom might not be there next season) but nobody else   yep. Lloris for a start. World cup winning captain (IIRC). Henderson is terrible. Alli is better than Firminho. Sissou...

Re: The Non - League thread

Following ‘contract talk’ break-downs, Bracknell's 31 goal striker Liam Ferdinand has left the club, on our books once wasn't he? Where did you get the 'contract talks' bit from? I'd assumed it was more a case of him looking to move up a level or two after a couple of very successful seasons. Brack...
