Re: BBC Radio Berks

I thought his interview with Gomes was poor today, trying to draw comparisons to Stam and targeting possession football, Gomes handled it well and spoke very well I thought. Gomes has stated he wants the team to play possession based football. Thought that the clarification on the topic was good, i...

Re: BFTG - Swansea

I’m confused with Ilori’s role in the game. Firstly, don’t buy all the ‘not as good as he thinks he is’ stuff, he always seems relatively humble whenever I’ve heard or read interviews. It's not really about being big-headed as such. It's more that he strolls around the pitch, in his mind's eye a ma...

Re: BBC Radio Berks

Love how people lecture Dellor and then come up with crackers like this. https://mobile.twitter.com/razor5edge/status/1080162747885727746 Yeah mate. You know what else those managers have? Some oxf*rd decent players to play it. Possession football isn't something that only top players can play. It'...

Re: Are we really going down this season

For me, today was a tipping point.

I've felt all season we could go down, but always felt we were likely to somehow just about scrape survival. Now I feel it's gone the other way, and it will actually be quite difficult to survive.

Re: CONFIMRED José Gomes

Snowflake Royal Certainly seen that accusation for Coppell's last season or two, McDermott's PL season and Stam.

Coppell and McDermott were accused of being too loyal towards players who maybe ought to have been replaced, but that's not the same thing as being too friendly with the players.

Re: BBC Radio Berks

sometimes it's clear Mick doesn't prepare as much as he should (e.g recently claiming to have no knowledge of Gomes so wouldn't offer up an opinion - it's your job to commentate on the club so perhaps just spend 15mins having a quick Google before going on air at the very least?). Tbf Mick has a jo...

West to the Eastbourne derby on Boxing Day, with Eastbourne's 2nd and 3rd clubs battling it out in front of an amazing step 5 crowd of 856 . Town, the home team, beat United 5-0. United are having a terrible season, only winning their first game of the season last week, so there probably won't be a...

Re: BFTG- Millwall (a)

Point being, there's no evidence to suggest that sacking the manager will improve results. Yes if your manager is actually holding you back (Mourinho at United) then it probably will, but that's about improving, not just changing. Situations like Coppell offering to resign when we were struggling i...

Re: Is this the worst Royals squad ever? Who would you keep?

windermereROYAL To the OP , not even close to being the worse squad EVER, quite comfortably yes in the 2nd tier though.

Only since promotion in 2002

The squad that went down in 1988 was definitely worse, albeit in a division that wasn't as good as now.

Re: On this day

28th Dec 1993. Reading play a top-of-the-table clash at home to Stockport County. With Elm Park limited to 12500, and the home turnstiles locked, the previously sparsely populated away end suddenly gains another 1000 or so "away" supporters, who very sportingly applaud both of Reading's go...

Are the teams full of local lads and so it's a proper derby game with lots of local interest, or is it just a freak o...

Didn't Sunderland also do a fly-on-the-wall documentary about 15 years ago, which also covered a season where they got relegated?

Re: Are we really going down this season

I always feel that while points tells you how good a team is, goal difference is an indicator of the quality of a squad. A team doing well with a modest goal difference is probably overachieving (like us in Stam's first season) while one with a GD that's not as bad as the teams around them is undera...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Queens Park Rangers sponsored by the Simod Cup started here

QPR it is. So yeah, Stevie Mac is doing ok. We laughed him off when he was available, thinking Clement was better. There really wasn't much time for speculation after Stam left. Clement was nailed on with the bookies within hours. The reaction was really one of people being a bit underwhelmed. http...

No such thing. https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/soccernomics-does-sacking-manager-actually-make-difference That's a pretty terrible bit of analysis. The thinking behind it is based on the fact that clubs average 1.3 points per game, but sack a manager when averaging about 1 point per game, yet ...

Your actual claim was that Nuno wasn't rated as highly as Gomes, even though there's nothing in his record to suggest Gomes was rated at all. You've managed to both explain and miss my point in the same post. OK. Just out of curiosity, where is you insight into the general feeling toward Nuno and G...

Re: CONFIMRED José Gomes

DelBoyRodders How can someone like this become the highest paid manager in the club’s history?

Is that confirmed?

He might be on four times his old salary, but he was at a club pulling crowds on par with Yeovil Town, so I doubt he was being paid all that much when he was there.
