Re: Howe out?

Why would they ask Sir John anything? He has had his day. Sir John for all the good he has done for us is a dinosaur and has no idea about modern football. More accurately he's going a bit lala and is pissed most of the time it seems. Also, he was advised by Howe and Hammond, so we've already got 5...

Re: Next Manager

Old Man Andrews Was this widely reported or did someone say it once on Twitter?

There's bound to be a thread about Bowen arriving.

Re: Congratulations, you are the new Reading manager

GetReading showed a tweet with this comment Whoever the manager is that comes in, they’ll be inheriting a midfield with fantastic ball carrying and the ability to break the lines via dribbles. Swift & Ejaria rank in the top 5 for progressive carries p90 this season. Rinomhota excelled in this m...

Re: Howe out?

We would have been relegated under Clement. Given Clement's record over that season, excluding the first five games, was similar to Gomes', that's far from certain. Especially seeing as it was the loanees who made most of the difference. For all you know if Clement stayed we might have finished 18th.

Re: Howe out?

The hero worship of Howe on his return was stupid. People remember Coppell and McDermott and conveniently forget Bullivant, Burns and Rodgers. Still, CEO is going to require more than 11 months to judge given the lack of obvious metrics under his direct control. Gomes hasn't worked (his defenders ar...

Re: Next Manager

IF it is Bowen, surely has to be down to FFP. Also throws into question the Gomes sacking for me too, no secret that he was on a decent sum of money - obviously results didn't help his cause, but does make me think getting his salary off the books and appointing internally could make it a financial...

Re: Next Manager

With Bowen now at odds of 1/12 - that would tell you its a done deal. Nearest is Sherwood at 12s. Tell you what, he must rate himself and got a magic wand because he has put himself under an enormous amount of pressure from the get go. Executioner turned manager rolled into one. Good luck with that...

Re: Next Manager

Has there been any word on the rest of Gomes' staff?

Presumably those he brought from Portugal have also gone?

Who is left to take training and prep for the game in the absence of a new team?

O'Shea, Bowen and Marshall?

Re: Congratulations, you are the new Reading manager

Wow, I mean we have some good midfielders, it's just our best three don't have the right balance of skills and our set up has been awful.

Re: Manager v luck etc

There's just one problem with that Bro. And it's that the graph actually demonstrates that good managers can make a strong positive impact. yeah I suppose but just to a much lesser degree manager could be +2 points star player could be +8 points If someone else could read all the data and supportin...

Re: GOMES OUT!

There's a pretty clear rationale for hiring all our managers except Gomes tbh. Not necessarily worked, which is why I hope we take a different approach this time and go for someone experienced. Our approach since Coppell, for the most part, has been to bring in unknowns or inexperienced managers, pr...

Re: Ex Players

Sooooo who else was there? Trevor Morley hat trick up the other end IIRC. Unrelated but I swear I remember Trevor Morley scoring a penalty with his head. OK, it was a rebound but it was near the penalty spot and the ball was about 3 inches off the ground. Yep, definitely scored a rebound from his o...

Re: Manager v luck etc

Once we've got that out of the way, there's enough data out there to be able to estimate the contributions of skill and of luck to football matches. I think I've got a decent book that goes into it, explains how it comes to the answer. Give me a day. Well, luck of course plays a part, there’s no de...

Was Sir Alex a pcunt in your view? I'd certainly argue he was I imagine the likes of Keane and Hughes look after players and the team internally when they buy in to the approach No, not really. Re: Next Manager

Mr Angry What, in a nutshell, would be wrong with Parky?

Apart from anything else, he is available (so no compensation to another club) and would have the fans being supportive of him as the club tries to sort itself out.

Nothing.

Re: Next Manager

I don't want a pcunt, I don't think that works for long. I'm not bothered by getting a nice guy, but if it's a nice guy they've got to actually be good, not just interview pleasantly and talk a good game. Was Sir Alex a pcunt in your view? I'd certainly argue he was I imagine the likes of Keane and...
