Re: The Magic Number Thread

I don't know about no magic number malarkey. My method is to wait until the end of the season and see where we are in the table. Works every time. Not if points deductions come into play….. Famous last words but they really shouldn't now - HMRC and wages appear to have been paid on time in March me...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

Quite, it's a football league record - the all time record at any level in England is AFC Wimbledon's 130 points when winning the CCL Premier League - they also scored 180 goals that season with their top scorer netting 53 time. Our 106 season remains the professional record in England. The Nationa...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

The Saarbrucken cup fairytale ended here last night, Kaiserslauten moving into the final with a routine win. Will be their first apperance in a final since 2003. First non 1. Bundesliga finalist since Duisburg in 2011 I think. Is still possible that it could be an all Second Division final but that ...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Opposite end of the scale to Everton is Brighton, who have released their accounts showing last financial year they made a profit of £123M and that doesn't even include the money for Caicedo or Sanchez Apparently that's a Premier League record. Even though it doesn't include money for Caicedo or Sa...

Re: Hob Nob Anyone? player of the season 2023/24

5 games to go it's that time again, who is your player of the season? vote now. hobnob only allows 20 options on a poll. So I went to transfermarket.com sorted players by appearances and removed the players who fcuked off in Jan like Abbey Holmes vickers etc. The below list is In order of the numbe...

Re: The Magic Number Thread

There are also many examples where the teams at the bottom just keep losing true to form. See 2018, 2019 and 2022 where the key reason we survived was not our own efforts but the incompetence of others or points deductions. Didn't we stay up in 2018 with fewer points than we have now? Yep, we someh...

Re: The final 10

Rovers have been getting steadily worse as their very outside chance of a play-off spot disappeared and there was no chance of them being dragged into a relegation battle. Over a 12 game form, they are 17th and that is the best it gets, over 10, 8, 6 and 4 they are lower in the table and have failed...

Re: The Magic Number Thread

Yeah 90% sounds about right - I am going to assume no more points off now as wages must have been paid and with the loan payments for April should be made on time. Looking at form over past 6 for us down then you get the following: 1. Reading 9 pts 2. Port Vale 7 pts 3. Cambridge 7pts 4. Fleetwood 6...

Re: Rival Watch

They'll be ecstatic that Charity FC are turning up then. 4 defeats in 12 (3 against the current top 3 sides) really isn`t so bad. Our away record after losing the first 8 away is W3, D5, L4 which is not shabby when 3 of those losses were the top 3. I think we'll win at either Bristol Rovers or Burt...

Especially as it's 5 defeats in the last 12 - have won 6 though - so it's not too shabby really. In context, only 9 sides have lost less than 5 games in the l...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

Surprised you all missed Chesterfield. They won the National League by a mile, and were on course to beat 106 easily. They seem to have gone on cruise mode and have only one win in five. Lost again yesterday, cannot now do 106 8) If that league counted then it would already have been beaten. Wrexha...

Re: Rival Watch

Burton, Port Vale and Cheltenham are 5, 6 & 7 points back with 5, 6 & 7 games to play respectively. It’s a tough shout to get 1 PPG more than the team you’re chasing so I’d fancy our chances that 2 of them won’t manage it Agreed, I think next week will pretty much finish off the relegation ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bolton Wanderers (a)

Weird game in many ways especially if you look at the stats as we equalled the amount of shots of Bolton and they only had 1 more on target than us but they probably had higher quality chances. Can't do much about a 25 yarder in the top corner but the ball should have just been cleared quicker, Dors...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Morecombe's owner woes continue as they are the latest to be put under a registration embargo for failure to pay tax on time. The owner there essentially refuses to finance the club sufficiently or sell for a realistric sum. Sounds familiar.

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

With the exclusivity announced, has there been a confirmation from the club that HMRC and players wages will be paid in full and on time for the rest of the season, thus eliminating the possibility of the suspended deduction of a further 2 points being enforced? If we hadn't paid HMRC (due last wee...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

Of course, which is what I infer in the last paragraph. We obviously don't know who the other bidders are/were, so it's possible these are the best option atm. I'm concerned by a number of red flags from the limited information we know about this group. And obviously, they may not get EFL approval ...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

The sweet spot is rich enough to invest well, but not so rich they can afford to piss it all away and it not matter to them. You want them to need success so they will take their decisions on how to invest seriously. I think we could reasonably argue that our club is indeed in the "sweet spot&...
