Re: [POLL] Is Aluko really that poor?

His tracking back is a bit of a weakness, can't deny that. Still think he puts in a decent shift though, certainly on a par with most of our attack minded players aside from Baldock who you really appreciate for the yards he covers. There's obviously something about him that keeps getting him select...

Re: [POLL] Is Aluko really that poor?

They're a flawed system but the WhoScored ratings suggest that somehow Aluko's form last season was his second best over the past few seasons. Likewise, his lack of end product is on par with his usual Championship output. If you take out the awesome season for Fulham in 2016/17, he's managed just ...

Re: Where have the hardcore gone? Culture loss.

As host of the earlier quoted 'desperately stage managed' Royal Exchange, I can tell you that there are players happy to talk, to open up and be as honest as realistically possible. We had Dave Edwards come on the show a few days after his red card at Villa and he fronted up. Likewise we had Vito M...

Re: Where have the hardcore gone? Culture loss.

Players only want to talk when things are rosey. All of our squad are hiders unfortunately, not one of them can front it up. I think some would be up for it. Meyler is always responding to sh*tty 12 year olds on twitter who whine at him. I'd rather someone who has been at the club longer do it thou...

Re: The Local Journo Thread

Well fcuking quite. It’s the internet get it for free but demand quality and this is unacceptable model. Get used to it pricks. On the plus side, I have noticed a very slow shift towards people who will actually back a project even if they don't have to. When I was running TTE, a slowly incre...

Re: The Local Journo Thread

I feel sorry for journalists these days, it must be such a ruthless, thankless and bleak job. You have images of journalism being things like, rushing out, chasing some information, interviewing people, drafting up an insightful piece ready for the Monday edition. Getting it in just gone 10pm over ...

How is the Mereoak Park & Ride? Looks an attractive option but always unsure how many busses run/how often on a matchday?

Re: Who could replace Stam?

Snowflake Royal A Championship side hiring a local non-league manager is definitely lol worthy.

Yeah, it's not as if a Manager whose only previous managerial experience came with Slough and Woking ever did much in this division ;)

No idea what the aims of our Chinese owner(s) are (beyond their public statements), but this is a good explainer/background piece from The Telegraph just over a year ago as to why SOME Chinese/foreign investors are buying clubs in Europe. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/09/07/great-haul-of-...

Re: The Tilehurst End & other Reading blogs

Cheers. I've got nothing but good things to say about the people from STAR I've dealt with over the years. They've always done their best and tried to help as many fans as possible. Could they do with some broader representation and some new ideas? Of course, any group could. But sadly it takes some...

Re: The Tilehurst End & other Reading blogs

Dirkers writes a passionate plea for STAR to stand up and be counted. http://thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/2014-15-analysis-opinion/2014/6/12/5801744/catch-a-falling-star V late to the thread here but this was my first unread post on the thread and it piqued my interest. Are STAR still going and did...

Re: The Tilehurst End & other Reading blogs

Long dead thread but wanted to say cheers to the Nobbers who helped back TTE over the years. I'm standing down over the next couple of weeks and handing it over to someone new to take over. Support has been much appreciated. https://thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/2017/10/1/16389136/its-farewell-from-m...

Re: Charlie Watts - great journo

As posted on the other thread about GR. Unless you're paying for those websites or the work done on them you really do lose most of your right to b**tch about adverts. Unless you expect everyone to provide you with free content obvs. Fair enough that the style/overbearing nature of some ads needs wo...

Re: Come back Charles Watts

Fair enough, and my problem is more with GR than JL - e is clearly not a football writer However it's not like we can contribute to the running costs to improve the quality - and of course they make their money by advertising and clicks etc. So every time we visit the site we are in some way paying...

Re: Come back Charles Watts

The trend with sites like getreading.co.uk is to keep costs down by not having experienced staff on board and dispensing with roles such as photographer, editor, proof reader etc etc. Most articles seem to be written by part time reporters, probably on zero hour contracts who are paid per article, ...

Re: Rumour: Dildo

Agreed, the internet really does kill proper journalism particularly if the site you work for is solely driven on clicks on/to their website. You're forced to report what basically amounts to total cr@p and non-stories (just like SSN) nearly all the time just to maintain freshness. In every single ...

Re: Rumour: Dildo

IN terms of sympathy - I'm a little short on it to be honest. Surely you would at least quickly put a name like that into google before posting it on the paper website - would take all of 5 seconds to do so. And whilst he might have not asked for the job initially, he must have known for a month or...
