Re: Building for next season

Thing with Wieser is that, granted he's a Leichtensteiner so hardly from a country with any footballing pedigree and he was a completely bizarre signing but he has played for Basel and Hoffenheim and has made a reasonable number of appearances in the Swiss top flight. He can't be completely useless.

Re: Building for next season

I reckon he'll turn up for pre season training and Clement will think he's the work experience tea boy.

Re: Building for next season

4 pages in and no-one's offered an opinion on our Leichtensteiner saviour in waiting, Sandro Wieser.

Re: Injury watch 2017-18 season

Not struggling to grasp anything other than an obsession with Fosu borne out of a 50 minute cameo three years ago. He seems to have achieved this mythical status whereby he was was the second coming of Gylfi and we let him slip away. I've supported this club long enough to witness enough young playe...

Re: Injury watch 2017-18 season

And that undisclosed fee would have been in the region of £100,000. However, the club would have known last May that there were long term question marks over McCleary and Harriott's fitness. Beerens was being used less and less so instead of being 5th choice, he's suddenly 2nd or 3rd choice. We had...

If he wasn't in Stam's plans, why was he offered a contract?

Re: Injury watch 2017-18 season

I'm not saying it wasn't a shame but let's not make out the club forced him out or released him when the facts suggest otherwise. MacLeary and Harriott have been injured since January last year, Popa just didn't fit for whatever reason and Beerens played less and less as last season went on. I think...

Re: Injury watch 2017-18 season

I think of the youngsters only him, Jules and Legg were offered contracts last summer. Wouldn't surprise me the club were aware of the extent of Harriott's injury and considering we subsequently signed Barrow and Aluko, I suspect Fosu was very much in their plans. I guess we'll never know but person...

Re: Injury watch 2017-18 season

So why did the club offer a contract to a player who was "clearly" not part of their plans?

Re: Injury watch 2017-18 season

He's also not been played as a winger at Charlton. By all means complain that he wasn't given enough chances but, you know, he spent 18 months on loan in League 2, didn't pull up any trees and was still offered a new contract. And to be fair to Harriett, at a similar age he had made close to 50 appe...

Re: Injury watch 2017-18 season

Zip
blueroyals Imagine swapping Fosu for Harriot

I think a lot of us felt Fosu was moved on far too quickly.

Can we cease with this myth that we released Fosu. He was offered a new contract last May and chose not to sign it.

Re: Safe standing progress

Whilst not being a direct reason for Hillsborough, it was indicative of how football supporters were regarded at the time, fenced in in unsafe areas, and treated as a problem. Pick up any fanzine in the aftermath of Hillsborough and they were all awash with stories of crumbling terraces, aggressive ...

Re: Safe standing progress

Well, apart from not having valid safety certificate and Hillborough was regarded as one of the best grounds in the country at the time.

The poor conditions were by no means swept away after Bradford. I remember going to away grounds in the late 80s that were in a shocking state.

Re: Safe standing progress

It's so sad that this is still being opposed. I mean after Hillsborough you can understand why emotion overrode logic. . . but now it's purely a political issue of MPs having to put up with Daily Mail scare stories for months on end. It wasn't really a question of emotion over logic. At the time, t...
