Re: Attendance watch 2011-2012

Attendance isn't the amount of tickets sold, its the amount that come through the gates. Now we have an automated system its easier to total up how many have come in. The number we report is the total number of tickets sold, including STH's who've not turned up (and people on trains). We used to re...

Re: Back from the game - Bristol City (H)

So many blame out of town stadia for the lack of atmosphere but how many houses surrounded Elm Park when we started playing there? Stanley Park in Liverpool is miles from the city centre these days but was probably not too far from a few farms 100 years ago. Most town centres have never had pitch s...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

The timing of a club folding can have a massive bearing as well. Rushden folded so late in the season they couldnt reform in time for the next. Very true. The new Windsor FC was formed in early February 2011. Business case etc had to be put in place to meet the end of March deadline to submit an ap...

Re: Craig Mackail-Smith

Does anyone actually know the chronology of this offer? The news may have come out this weekend, but there's no guarantee that this offer came *after* the Roberts transfer. Hammond : Hello, Brighton? How much for CMS? Brighton : More than you can afford, sunshine!. Hammond : Hello, Blackburn? How mu...

Re: Thames Sports Investment

Indeed, but the vast majority of the investment there was in infrastructure - stadium, training ground, etc. And that's actual "investment "- where there is a return because the actual value of the club and its tangible assets has increased. From that point on, there's not really any retur...

I do believe that even for a scumbag like him there has to be a trail and a guilty verdict first.

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

On the "where would they start again issue", the FA has since adopted a new stance on this. All Pheonix clubs entering the Non League pyriamid are to start at Step 5 (thats Non League Step 5). ie, Combined Counties. This was brought in as a result of Non League clubs only dropping 2 divis...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

I just dont buy the "Its not the fans fault" arguement. Its not the fans fault when the team is poorly managed and they get relegated either, doesn't mean they should be let off. You win as a club and lose as a club. Thats what "Clubs" do. There's a slight difference between get...

Re: Back from the game - Bristol City (H)

Agreed with the above two. Its not just the football which quite frankly is dull and uninspiring, but the whole occasion seems to annoy me these days. Flat atmosphere's, being stuck in the carpark 30 mins after the game...awfully expensive food/drink which is completely tasteless. I ordered a coffe...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

They'd start at Conference level and play at Fratton Park. You dont think FP would be sold? I dont see how they could buy it back, or pay enough rent to persuade the owner not to sell. Portsmouth City Council have said that they will not approve any change of use for FP - it's only value is as a fo...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Mr Angry Why Conference level SC?

Why not Blue Square South Div 2?

There's a FA Committee that decides the appropriate level for incoming teams, based on facilities and attendances. When this was discussed last year I think they'd (informally) decided Tier 5 was the best level for a phoenix Pompey.

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

The very least is that the people who have presided over the management of Pompey should never be allowed near a football club every again - and that includes Mandaric and 'Arry. As for the fans, they enjoyed the good times by seeing players they knew the club couldn't afford bringing them success ...

Re: Safe Standing with new owners?

Oh and a poll of supporters in the local media might be useful. Wouldn't it be funny if fans who didn't want safe standing actually bothered to vote? They usually do, but they're consistently a small minority - because even those who prefer to sit themselves want to see the regulations changed so t...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Just of comparison, read the similar blog from a Coventry fan. http://thetwounfortunates.com/turmoil-week-coventry-city/ Their austerity will probably cost them relegation. Parachute payments for them would make a massive difference. All depends on how you read it - the sentence that struck me was ...

Re: Back from the game - Bristol City (H)

Why are people getting so excited that we're 4th? We won't be 4th after Tuesday night - it's only because most other teams around us were playing in the second round of the FA cup yesterday. We have the points in the bag. The other teams have to win to catch us up - and it's unlikley that th...

Re: Back from the game - Bristol City (H)

Agree that Karacan was great - but I think he can't only play like that when Leighterwood is missing. When they're both out there, Leighterwood tends to be more attacking and Karacan has to play in the more defensive role, but with Tabb it seems the roles are reversed and Jem has the freedom to go f...
