Re: WC2010 - as seen on TV

what also grates with me is when you get a world cup match between two lesser nations, particularly on the BBC, they smugly sit around with a "who cares about this shitty game?" attitude as if it's beneath them to even discuss it. They somehow fail to grasp that even though they couldn't ...

Re: WC2010 - as seen on TV

let's be honest it's because football is a game for plebs There's something in that I think. Seconded! I listen to 5Live on the way home a fair bit and it's >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anything on TV. I listened to 5Live for the first time this WC whilst making dinner last night. They had a lengthy discussion...

Re: WC2010 - as seen on TV

What I thouroughly decent article. I think that the problem with the WC punditry is that most people in the UK have never really experienced any decent punditry on the TV (5 Live however is excellent) so accept this crap as the norm. However I disagree with Rev A in that this level of journalism is ...

Re: WC2010 - as seen on TV

To give credit where it's due I think Rijkard's doing well but then, being Dutch, his English is better than the likes of Shearer and he offers analysis not cliches.

Re: Brazil vs North Korea [OFFICIAL THREAD]

Something really refreshing about the North Koreans this evening was their honesty. There was no diving, no play acting, and no berating officials, it made for a very nice change and was a marked contrast to Brazil and Portugal earlier in the day.

Oh, 500 posts and it's only taken me five years.

Re: Brazil vs North Korea [OFFICIAL THREAD]

We should really be betting on how many North Koreans will do a runner from the training camp and claim asylum Maybe that's why they're training behind barbed wire fences... I all seriousness i'm sure the North Koreans will feel under a great deal of pressure, after all North Korea rarely gets the ...

This isn't bad game with both sides trying to go forward which is a welcome change from some of the dross seen thus far in tis World Cup. Weiss for the Slovaks looks very useful.

Re: Ivory Coast vs Portugal [OFFICIAL THREAD]

Why do people so frequently use Cote D'Ivoire instead of the Ivory Coast? We don't use Deutschland, Espana or Italia so why this?

Just interested that's all.

Re: WC2010 - as seen on TV

Which brain at ITV thought edgar Davids would make a good pundit? He's beyond appalling. Sometimes talks himself to a standstill because he just doesn't know what English word to use. Then there's awkward silence. He adds NOTHING. ITV IS SHIT. To be fair he's better than Adebayor on the BBC. He spe...

Re: Shove your vuvuzelas up your arse

I'm watching the Holland game and the commentary is almost drowned out by those bl*ddy horns. I just hope they ban the damn things. Agreed. The Dutch and Danes both travel in numbers and i'm prety sure the Dutch have a band. But after 80mins of football i'm yet to hear one song or cheer to s...

Re: WC2010 - as seen on TV

Tails ITV (I assume its them) have it as a Poulson own goal - surely it is obvious that it should go down as an Agger OG.

Who is the Scot co-commentating? Clueless.

Agreed. The initial header, as bad as it was, was going well wide. And it's Craig Burley BTW.

Re: World Cup betting

Surprised some mention Argentina, they only just qualified. And though good teams often come good at the Finals, Maradona's picks ensure that the don't have enough quality to make that dramatic upturn in form required. One example of many good players he left at home is European Cup and Italian dome...

Re: WC2010 - as seen on TV

It is the ITV commentators more than the studio guests that get on my tits. At least the studio bits are comparatively brief, you have to put up with Clive Tyldesley or Peter Drury for 45 minutes at a time. The annoying thing is that ITV do have a decent commentator - John Champion - but he plays t...

Re: WC2010 - as seen on TV

Following the avalanche of complaints about the new 'lightest ever World Cup match ball' (Cesar of Brazil refered to it as a ball you'd buy in the supermarket  ) I laughed at the irony of the oversize ball in the opening ceremony representing a piece of sh1t being pushed by a dung beetle! And d...

Re: Royals no closer to Griffin capture, Khiz not coming back

Dave Jones’s beaten play-off finalists have the financial edge on Royals, who have been trying to sign the Stoke City right-back since he ended his successful spell on loan at the club last month. Although Reading are unwilling to pay a fee, Dave Jones’s beaten play-off finalists have the financial...
