Re: Anyone For Chinese?

The question remains though - what exactly would a new owner be buying? A club that has no fixed assets, that's well in excess of £100 million in debt, commited to paying around £1 million in rent each year for the stadium. There's no reason a buyer for the club wouldn’t also buy the stadium and tr...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

People I think are mis-reading the situation here. If Selles comes in this week (or soon) it will be as Head Coach not as Manager. To me at least, it seems as though the set up we are looking for is Bowen & Carey have responsability for recruitment - working with Dublin or whoever his replaceme...

Re: New embargo incoming

Surely there must be some Championship clubs they can pick on? I trust the Football League a million times more than our owners..... A million times zero =? Both culpable in my view. Why? The Football League has rules that are designed to stop this sort of thing happening to the best of their abili...

Re: An Update From The CEO

https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2023/june/15/an-update-from-the-ceo/ I would personally like to thank all our supporters for their patience last season and throughout the summer so far. Mr Dai personally attended both home and away matches on many occasions last season and, as a supporter of this ...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

Yes agreed wholeheartedly but they weren’t unknown. But were as managers. When Neville went to Valencia, who knew what they'd get? Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard have had some success just not pulled up trees overly either. "some success" being, none really. Gerrard was at Rangers and did ok...

Yes agreed wholeheartedly but they weren’t unknown. But were as managers. When Neville went to Valencia, who knew what they'd get? Oh, I think we knew what they'd get. But you don't. With hindsight it's easy, but at the time, who knew if he'd become the next best thing or not. Zidane... who'd think...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, some of the best players of their generation, not very good managers. Ditto:- Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles ,Gary Neville etc., etc. There is no set blue print for the ideal manager. Yes agreed wholeheartedly but they weren’t unknown. But wer...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

This is it, if you have someone like a Ferguson or Klopp or Guardiola recommending an unknown then you take notice. When it's johnny agent then you should take it with a pinch of salt. How highly regarded was Paul Clement? https://hobnob.royals.org/forum/search.php?keywords=clement+highly+regarded&...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

Steve Coppell, Charlie Hurley, being obvious exceptions to that rule…obvs? There are those who make it, how many of the current crop of Champions League winners won the Champions League as players? Guardiola, Anchelloti https://www.sportingnews.com/in/soccer/news/who-won-champions-league-player-man...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

Well, the first games I saw at Elm Park were with Porterfield as manager, and it was a load of rubbish. Madejski was new to the club, and he hired a complete unknown. yeah the unknown Scottish League, European Cup Winners cup, Supercup winner and Scottish PFA player of the year . Who was recommende...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

If he had no connection to Reading and someone was suggesting a manager who had only managed in Vietnam and Africa, there would be outrage, the likes of which have never been seen before. The fact he used to play for us, should not mean that his managerial history is ignored. I've met DK a few time...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

Ok great, just because it worked once 30 years ago, it should work now. I was only 2 when McGhee was hired, so wasn't around much football chat, can anyone convey the mood around the club when he was hired? Was his appointment met with derision? Also the football club was in a much, much better pos...

Re: New manager rumours and speculation

Kerr clearly has something about him as a coach and/or manager but is he the sort of ...
