Mikkel Andersen

by pea » 21 Dec 2010 14:26

Doesn't get a mention on here a lot but did well at Rovers last season and got a lot of praise on the local BBC show they did with Murty and Jonathan Pearce. Thought I'd check up on him on 606 and already got some impressive responses:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/F19804022?thread=7950586

Mikel has done ok again this season for us however a few results where we have been hammered have seen him have a poor defence in front of him. He has been at fault for the odd goal but he has saved us from many more goals. I would say he is the best goalie in the division though. Would love to keep him till end of season. Permanent though I'm afraid is just a dream.

He's a great keeper at this level - probably one of the best in this division. We'd love to keep him but I doubt that'll only happen if we got promoted (ha!).

You've got yourselves a good one!

Reading seem to be blessed with a talented group of goalkeepers!

Mikkel has been outstanding for us again this year, some of the saves he's pulled off have been phenomenal and opposition managers have often complimented his performances for us. He's adored by the fans and it's obvious he loves the club, but he's an ambitious guy and won't hesitate in going back to Reading if it means playing a better standard of football regularly.

Thanks for allowing us to have him for this long, you've got a very very talented young player.

He has been outstanding behind a very porous defence. Very few of the goals have been down to him. He played well at Sheff. Weds. despite letting in 6. Hope you have big win on boxing day!

I think he might be the one to step up and fill Federici's gloves if he leaves.

He looks more the part than the other two, and seems to have come on in leaps and bounds the last couple of years.

Definitely agree, Hamer seems to be going backwards

Sell Hamer, If Fedders goes in the summer, then we should use Andersen with McCarthy as back-up. Locke as third choice.

Saw Anderson play for the Gas against Sheffield Wednesday the other week and despite them getting d1cked 6-2, he was easily their best player. If it wasn't for him, the score would have been even worse for Rovers. Their fans seem to rate him and he's apparently been a pretty consistent performer.

Boss is a Gashead, STH to boot, pretty much backs up what is said on here. Massively talented 'keeper, would love it if Rovers can keep him. Bit of a pipe dream tbf.

Alan Partridge, with his Torquay head on, has some polar opposite views on the big Dane though...

Keep him happy getting games by loaning him out until we can actually play him. Hamer seems to have lost his way after a season sitting on the bench, McCarthy potentially could go the same way after this season. S o lets keep Andersen playing and improving - even if it means loaning him out to a rival, should Fed still be here over the next couple of years.

Fed's contract negotiations have to be strengtherned for us by the number of talented young keeper's we have.

outstanding keeper, great with our fans. if he goes then we will be conceding double figures let alone 6!!
our defence has cost us games this season which has not been fare for andersen, he can only do so much.
i will certainly be keeping one eye on his future when he does move on. he is bristol's no 1 much better than the oap calamity our red friends have...
thanks to reading f.c

The reserve keeper situation is a bit of a puzzler.

Hamer does seem to have suffered for a year on the bench. Maybe we should rotate Andersen/McCarthy loans to make sure it doesn't happen to them as well.

As for the comments on Anderson at Rovers, keepers can often look flattering when playing behind a shit defence. Certainly gives them plenty of chances to make saves, they might make 3 blinding saves and let in 4, kind of flattering against a keeper only called upon maybe once a game. Id take their comments with a pinch of salt til ive seen him play in the flesh.

To be fair, they were saying the same things when they were sitting just off the playoffs all last season.

Agreed. He could be a good shot stopper, but is he partly at fault for his unorganised defence?

Same thing happens with Federici too. He's conceeded a lot of goals at times that you just think a better keeper would've kept out. They aren't glaring erorrs like some he lets in, but just a little soft but he then makes 2 or 3 very good saves (or good for the camera at least) and looks that bit better than he really is.

Shot stopping is the easier bit of the game and all keepers should make good ones, although in many ways the really good keepers make less spectactular saves than the average ones.

I think we're a little spolit from the Whitehead/Hahnemann/Federici era!
How manay spectacluar svaes do you see opposing sides keepers make? About 3 a season?!
Ours make at least 1 a game!

If I had been in nets for the past decade we'd still be fighitng relegation form division two!

And guess what - our Director of Footballs a keeper!

Ian Royal It is idiocy to want to think we'd be fine letting Fed go and putting a young inexperienced keeper in his place.

Young keeper's will make errors, its simple.

Making a couple of million by selling Federici and giving Anderson a run in the side wouldn't hurt. Federici is still learning his trade and prone to a few mistakes. I don't think Anderson would make any more than Federici does.

For now we're a selling club, and with some talented young keepers waiting in the wings, this wouldn't be as big a risk as you make out.

It may be worth selling A Fed in January, then recalling Andersen, if this article is an indication of how things are going with contract negotiations between the club and A Fed....

Premier ambitions for in-form Federici
by Anthony Smith

Wanted man: Reading may have to fight off approaches for Adam Federici in the January transfer window.
ADAM Federici has reaffirmed his desire to play in the Premier League while contract discussions with Reading rumble on.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper is in talks with the club over a bumper new deal as his current one is due to expire next summer.

But Federici’s future at Madejski Stadium has been thrown in doubt once again following renewed interest from a string of top-flight clubs.

Recent reports say both Liverpool and Fulham continue to track the Australian stopper, with North London Rivals Tottenham and Arsenal also showing interest a matter of days before the January transfer window opens.

Federici makes no secret of his ambition to play in the Premier League and, given the hardship he faced during the early part of his career, he would find it difficult to reject a move.

He said: “I’m not going to hide my ambition. I’ve come a long way to play in this country and I want to be at the highest level.

“We have a realistic chance of getting promoted this season and if I can do it with Reading that’s fantastic.

“Everyone wants to play Premier League football. It’s the biggest league in the world and the most watched. I’ve had my little taste of it and it’s fantastic to be involved in it.”

Federici, who was back-up to Mark Schwarzer at the World Cup last summer, could potentially leave Reading on a free transfer next June.

“I’m out of contract at the end of this season,” he explained. “We’ve been in discussions and I hope all goes well.

“I tend to just keep my head down and play. We’ll have to see what happens, but I want to stay. Hopefully, we’ll sort things out and it’s all positive.”

Federici showed his class again in last weekend's 2-1 victory at Derby County where his saves to deny Luke Moore and Kris Commons in particular were of the very highest quality.

They proved critical to the result as an 88th minute winner from Shane Long secured Royals' first win in seven league games. But a typically modest Federici played down the significance of his own role.

“It was a team effort and the lads did tremendously well,” he argued. “We all worked hard for each other and it was a good team performance.

“Our defence played well and it was great to see Shane get a couple which will be great for his confidence.

“There was some ice on the pitch and it was difficult for goalkeeping but you come to expect that. It was a great result for us and a much needed three points. We fought hard for it and deserved it in the end.

“I would have preferred a clean sheet but it wasn’t to be and I will take 2-1 every day of the week if it means three points.”

The victory also ended a run of five consecutive draws and Federici added: “We got rid of that little hoodoo. We needed that win, especially for everyone’s confidence and hopefully we can kick on now.

“I think we’re in a good position. We’ve been playing well without that bit of luck you need. Hopefully we can have our share of it now. But the Championship is so tight and if you win a couple of games you never know where you will be.”

And Federici also paid tribute to Royals’ travelling fans at Derby: “We heard about everyone being snowed in back home in Reading so how they made it up I’ll never know. It was a tremendous effort on their part to come and support us like that."

Reading face a hectic festive period with four games in nine days starting with the visit of Bristol City on Boxing Day (3pm ko).

Sounds very much as if Fed is suggesting quite strongly that unless we go up, he will go.

Can't help feeling a little disappointed as we did give him his opportunity in English football, and now it sounds as if he is perfectly happy to dump us to sit on a Premiership bench somewhere.....

It sounds like one of those situations where if the club signs him up to a long-term contract during the transfer window it would then be a case of "This shows our firm commitment to achieving our aim of Premiership football".
On the other hand if we sell him it would be "We did not wish to stand in his way and we have very good young reserve goalkeepers brought through the academy ready to grasp the opportunity....."
Also having sold him for say £1.5 million we can then spend £50,000 on a new striker.

Surely he realises that there's no way a top PL team are going to sign him as a first choice. I'd be amazed if any PL team would tbh.

From what I have seen, I would put Anderssen and McCarthy ahead of Hamer...
