Yeah McFadden is a pretty big signing but from what I've seen he plays either on the left or up front, arguably the strongest areas of Reading's squad.

Hangeland probably would have been a decent signing (I'm guessing!)

Huntley & Palmer McFadden or Marek? I know which I would take in our current position

To be totally honest, I'm happy with the bloke that wants to be here.

As soon as Big Eck was interested, McFadden was only ever going there or to a club much bigger in stature so not fussed in the slightest about it.

Although his absolute dolt of an agent did his best to try and price him out of it.

sheshnu all we'd be after then is that elusive right winger and possibly a central defender - neither of which I can see being snapped up by the teams around us. So far.

Hangeland is a central defender. A tall one! Has international experience.

I'll leave the Nordic contingent to comment on how good he actually is.

Yeah but Ideal is very reluctant to mention him. If only he'd tell us what he thinks of the bloke.

At least he's not Swedish. If he was, he'd be rubbish.

We were obviously never in the running for him, but it does show the level of spending that clubs we're in direct competition with are willing to undertake.

I'm not saying spending means ambition, or that spending means gauranteed success BUT Coppell said he wanted to bring in players that can make a difference, that can win games and that he didn't want to bring in foreign signings in January because of the associated problems. SO FAR we're not seeing that, which is a little concerning.

How do we miss out on a player that we probably weren't even interested in?

Indeed but make's it pointless to say we've missed out on someone that we may or may not have looked at.

As I said elsewhere if Matejovsky had signed for Fulham or Birmingham people would be moaning saying that's the sort of player we should have got but because we've got him, it's a big gamble that probably won't pay off because Fae hasn't yet.

Know him personally do you?

Do you not think that Roy Hodgson may have been a factor in his move? A manager who is highly respected in Scandanavia and managed successfully at the club they've just signed Hangeland from?

Wasn't Matt Taylor linked with us at one stage? What went wrong? (Sorry if this has already been said.)

So basically he was hoiked around the Premier League in the summer and nobody wanted him then?

Comes to Jan and the only club who we know want him are Fulham.

I'm not saying he's a bad player but that's hardly a glowing reference.

Ideal
Platypuss Fulham officially sign Brede Hangeland from FC Copenhagen.

Disastrous for us, they SIGNIFICANTLY strengthen with a player that can go straight into their team, and we miss out again.
Hangeland is a very very good defender. Similar to Hyypia, and is only 25.
I expect him to do very well in this league, and I think it is absolutely horrible that we didn't have a look in.

In a John Carew style good or a Ole Solskjaer style good?

Well thats a releif. I was a little worried he might've been the experienced defender we were talking to.
