Is HArte on penalty duty now? Good, if he is, IMO.

Agreed, even when the keeper guessed right he could not stop Harte today!

Seems fair, but I'd be willing to bet Long is back on taking duty when he wins the next one.

No one bangs them in like Harte though... and Long might aggravate his ankle/knee/hip injuries.

He only took it because Long was injured when he won the penalty.

Best penalty I have seen from a Reading player in a good while.

Thumped into the top right hand corner - no chance for the keeper.

I say keep him on duty...

Even though I have my 25 each way at 25-1 on Shane, I agree, Harte should take the pens.

But, OTOH, if Shane ends up on 30 goals, he might earn the club an extra couple of million quid.

No, it's horrible, and I'll be gutted, but if Shane goes, 8 Million would be better than 3 Million, 7/4, 6/5, yes?

Yep, and if he had been all season instead of Shane Long then he'd probably have more goals than him.

I think this confirms that Shane is actually still shite and would've been outscored by a left-back.

I think Long has become really good at penalties. He is unpredictable and uses power not placement. But he will always miss 10-20% with this technique. Ian Harte is perfection though. I think it was Long's injury that prevented him taking the pen last night, but if its injury time v Derby and we win a pen that we need for promotion, I'd like Harte to take it!

Yep, it's quite something to hit the side netting (from inside the goal, of course) from a penalty, but Harte does it consistently.

He's also capable of putting it high into that side netting consistently which makes it very hard for a keeper to get to unless they move very early.

Just noticed on the OS that McDermott mentions they bought him for £70,000. Absolute bargain...although when you consider we got Doyle for the same amount, maybe it's a rip off?

New rule for Reading FC. Never buy an Irishman for an initial payment of more tha £75k. It doesn't work. See Mooney, Bennett and Hunter(?) as examples. Under £75k guarantees a result eventually.
