Snowball 34 (02) 2,991 Minutes 17 Goals = 176 Minutes per Goal Shane Long*
17 (12) 1,534 Minutes 07 Goals = 219 Minutes per Goal Noel Hunt

14 (18) 1,420 Minutes 04 Goals = 355 Minutes per Goal Simon Church
30 (03) 2,698 Minutes 06 Goals = 450 Minutes per Goal Jimmy Kebe
31 (00) 2,716 Minutes 05 Goals = 543 Minutes per Goal Ian Harte

* One start 15 minutes, entered as a sub appearance

Surely then it's a start and not a sub appearance? :|

You always just try to twist the facts that will make your argument look better. Like you used the last 8 games as part of form? How the fcuk does that work?!

No "twisting of facts" I posted the "fact"

And what matters are the minutes per goal, better than a goal every 180 minutes

As for "last eight games" as part of form I think you'll find that was others.

But carry on, obscure what matters with yet another tedious argument

Is that really true though, I would rather see any strikers goals come spread out, Long has been quite good in this respect, not too many doubles to skew the figure, his only surplus goal was against Bristol C.

Shane is on fire and I hope it continues, he's traditionally come strong between December-Feb and if he can maintain it, he'll have gone a long way to prove those of us who were sceptical wrong.

In fairness to Shane he hasn't stopped scoring since this thread began. I thought he was playing pretty well before this run of scoring and is in my view our player of the season so far by a long way. Where would we be without his goals? I dread to think.
He is likely to be gone in the summer and we are reliant on Manset filling his boots.
I think he really doesn't have anything to prove to anyone. This has been his first season at the club where a manager has had enough faith in him to give him an extended run in the side. The results speak for themselves.

I can't speak for anyone else, but having watched Church for abotu 5 years I can see a player that may do ok at this level as a bit part player or, at a push, a second forward alongside someone who is that bit special. I've prett much said that all along.

given that in the last year or so the majority of supporters have believed jimmy kebe, shane long, sean cummings to all be not even good enough for park football, i wouldnt pay too much attention to what any of us say on the matter.

You can add Pearce to that list.

Long's barely missed a game since McDermott took over. He got the chance last season, did well for a while and then fell away again. He has, however, been phenomenal since Derby and definitely POTS. I think he could do with proving it's more than a one season wonder though.

Long played 1,732 minutes for McDermot last season and scored 9 goals, a goal every 192 minutes.

He was suspended in the middle of that and it's clear he thrives on playing regularly.

Add his minutes and goals this season and it's 4,723 Minutes for 26 goals = a goal every 181.7 minutes

BTW His goals this season starting alongside Hunt are stunning 15 (0) 1,335 Minutes 11 Goals, a goal every 120 minutes (1.33 Games)

Playing with Long Hunt is 1,037 Minutes for 7 goals, a goal every 145 minutes

You voiced an opinion, without the actual evidence to back it up
and did it at the same time as I was writing my post

I think the spell last season was too short to be honest. It was only a dozen games at most.

I genuinely have been convinced that he is the real deal now... He's done what I asked to prove himself. Football has gone crazy so that having a good scoring run over about 10 games can get you a move to a bigger club these days it seems sometimes. I do think he would be best off cementing his form with another successful half season here at least before moving up the ladder.

A club change and a higher level could ruin him if it starts off slowly or he ends up bench warming for ages.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more of that kind of Long-bashing from opposition fans to be honest.

IMO it makes no difference if the pens are real or "bought"

Every opposition manager knows how Long plays, and
if drongo defenders are too stupid to deal with it, tough

It makes no real difference no, but I'd rather not see our players go to ground so easily, and blatantly dive in some instances (Mills I'm looking at you here), because it's crap.

Obviously being a professional and with referee's and defenders both falling for his (and others) diving and at times clever play to draw a foul we'll keep seeing it week-in week-out. Doesn't make it any less surprising to me that we haven't seen more of opposition fans calling him a diver though.

Diving and cheating are just one of the many things more prevalent in the game these days that just make it less appealing if you ask me.

'greed with that Hoop.

I'd also add that I'm not a hypocrite, so I see no difference between our players doing it and another team's and I would criticse another team's player.
