Ball over the stadium

by TBM » 30 Jan 2012 16:22

Twice this happened on Saturday

Once by their defender and the other by James when the full time whistle went..........

Has the ball ever gone over the roof before? - wasn't there a competition [years ago] for free fish and chips for a the first player to do so?!

The whistle went for a foul and the defender booted it over the west stand (half way line) and then when the full time whistle went James booted it over the West stand again but more in line with his 18 yard box

I agree. Unless the game was so boring that I fell asleep, the ball did not go out of the stadium during the game. I'm sure there would have been a massive cheer if it had!

Would need a comeback from Martin Hicks to stand any real chance of doing it during normal play!

indeed. i think you're mistaken tbm, i'm certain of it. everyone's eyes are on the ball and there would have been a reaction to the ball clearing the roof, and there wasn't.

as for james after the final whistle, no idea. no one else seems to have mentioned it.

The ball was definitely kicked over the west stand twice as TBM says. A replacement ball was thrown onto the pitch pretty swiftly after the first time and, as already said, the second time was at the end of the game.

Yes it did about four or five seasons ago. I can't remember the exact game but my daughter commented before the match "wouldn't it be funny, if someone kicked the ball so high it went out of the stadium." It went over the East stand. Occassionally she recalls the story with, do you remember the time .....

Not sure out of the stadium but certainly onto the West Stand roof - about 10 minutes from the end, during an injury break, by one of the Brizzle players (centre-back?)

Wouldn't it have rolled down in to the car park? - when it rains etc it must be slightly sloped?

Nope, because I think the roofs are ridged, rather than flat, with guttering and a rim at the edges. In any case, where it was kicked off it'd have ended up on the hotel roof.

If you were sat in the West Stand, how could you see? :?

Whereas, those of us sat opposite in the East Stand were extremely well positioned to see.
