As someone who has lived in the North for the past 8 years, it's the lack of community spirit, civic pride and the general ignorance and selfishness of the people that I hate the most about living here.

I live in the North. I like it. I can see fields from my house.
People are all the same- Some miserable, some not.

I like living in the North, I'm 20 minutes from the Dales, it's great, just the whole mythological ideal in the North of everyone pulling together for the greater good whilst everyone in the South being selfish and out for themselves is utter bollocks. In my experience, there's more civic responsibility and civic pride to be found in Reading than Bradford or Leeds.

Couldn't afford to live in London? That's a shame.

I can't speak for Winnersh but I have zero desire to live in London - money or no money. I was unfortunate enough to have to suffer a train and tube during rush hour 2 weeks ago. Fcuk doing that each day.

Far too hectic for me and I detest public transport. I can earn exactly the same money in the Thames Valley for what I do anyway so even £ wouldn't reel me in. No thanks.

Mr Optimist I can almost hear the Hovis music in the background. I think this helmet's problem is his massive lack of personality and self esteem.

Could it be no-one speaking to him could be his problem not someone else's?

I have done the journey in reverse for the last fifteen years and there are plenty of people who would stab their own Gran for a stack of cash here too. The north is not some sort of socialist utopia where you can leave your front door open.

And your football team is crap too.

+1 especially if you consider that that Hovis ad was shot in Shaftesbury, Dorset. Even back then, the north was too grim :-)

I also enjoy (usually) visiting rival fans forums after the game. What is disappointing about the Bolton forums is that not one of them (that I have found anyway) have anything positive to say about the way we played.

The main problem with Bolton fans is that they suffer from a collective delusion of grandeur; they REALLY believe that their "rightful" place is in the Premier League and that having to slum it in the Championship is a mere inconvenience that they really shouldn't have to endure. Remember, it was their Chairman (Phil Gartside??) who was especially vocal about creating a Premier League 2 with no relegation or promotion in or out...with Bolton in of course! Of course, if that were to happen that mere trifle of £161M in debt would be an irrelevance......

.....as it is, Bolton are in dire need of a reality check; they are a few points off relegation, and with no chance of promotion they will fall foul of FFP when it comes into force. They - unlike us - have massive competition from other clubs in and around them, so who would want to invest heavily in a club whose near neighbour are Man City?

Regardless of how worrying our current situation re: ownership is, it is Nirvana in comparison with Bolton's situation; if I was a Bolton fan, I wouldn't be posting arsey articles about the crappy South, I'd be bricking myself at the very real possibility that my club are staring at going into administration and possibly receivership.

So - a bit like West Ham then!

I don't think Wokingham and the surrounding leafy areas are much cheaper than London. A lot of us could, and do, afford to own properties in London but would never want to live there. Those with the ability move out when they can.

Up north, generally friendly people, cheap, but a bit grim.
Down in Berkshire, relatively stuck up and unfriendly folk, very expensive to live in, but generally a fantastic place to live.
London, the most unfriendly troubled people in the UK, quite possibly in Europe/the world, with the most corrupt/racist/abusive/tosserish police force in the UK, extremely expensive and a horrifically awful place to live in absolutely every respect. The worst of all worlds. I think I'll stick to using my spare change to buy investment properties there instead thank you very much.

Boy, the stereotypes are well and truly alive in that statement!

Having now lived for over 30 years in Greater London, I can only say my experiences and what I see every day are very different from the London that you like to portray. As for a horrifically awful place to live in absolutely every respect - what a load of ignorant and plainly wrong b*llocks!. Yes there are bad bits but there are also some very good bits about living in London and myself and many others think the good outweighs the bad.

I could buy Wokingham. Bulldoze it and turn it into a giant shrine to King Kasparss the Great.
