Feel sorry for Barrett. I think he did well when given the chance earlier in the season. I was at Plymouth when he scored two good goals and he did ok in the league games when I saw him. It just seems a case of bad luck with McCleary coming back into the squad and Boye recovering from injury. Suspect he will go out on loan in January baring injuries and could well be sold in the summer.

He had a chance to push on after his decent sub appearance at Swansea, but he was really ineffectual in his start against Fulham and he's barely been seen since

And then in Bowen's first game IIRC he was ill so he's not exactly had much luck on his side. Still, at a young age of 21, he's got a good chance to develop. Not sure it'll be here though

Academy Manager Ged Roddy has left.

Not sure what to make of it but Jlow will hopefully shed some light tomorrow.

Can't believe Barrett is still only 21, he seems to have been around for ages.

He mainly plays as a winger / wide forward and we just don't really use them so he's not going to get much of a look in.

McCleary has played AM, ST, RW, LW and RB and Boye AM, ST and LW so whilst I think Barrett has looked better than Boye, Boye is more versatile.

Royals and Racers Reading U18`s play their last league cup group B match tomorrow with a long away trip to Middlesborough KO 1pm. All 4 teams in the group have 3 points( 1 win 1 loss) after the 2 matches played so far and all 4 teams have the same GD 0, therefore it`s all to play for with the 6 group winners and the 2 best 2nd placed teams progressing to the QF`s.

Middlesborough 3 Royals 4 so the Royals reach the Quarter final as group winners.

Teams in last 8 are Chelsea, Reading, Norwich, Man City, Newcastle, Brighton and the 2 best runners up which can`t be decided until the final group match is played on Tuesday.

Stoke and Everton i think will complete the QF`s as best 2nd finishers- QF`s are just 1 match.
Amazingly all of the Royal`s 3 group matches were 4-3( 2 wins 1 loss) !!
Last Saturday`s match at Middlesborough saw the home team lead 3-0 before Hewitt, McGiff, Hamilton and Anderson scored 4 in the last 18 minutes.
As expected the fantastic Reading FC publicity machine have yet to mention we have qualified for the QF`s or a report on the website yet (or social media) but as it`s only Tuesday and the match was Saturday lunchtime i suppose we shouldn`t expect anything else.

This is what Paultheroyal wrote on the 7th of this month
" On a slightly different note, i can speak from experience that Reading FC Academy - the younger years is in an absolute mess and needs sorting out. Someone has clearly taken their eyes off the ball. Hopefully with the transition over to Bearwood, someone will get a hold of the setup and some of the appointments and get it back to the professional outfit it should be for a category one club.

Many others put ours to shame."
He was obviously spot on

ged roddy was instrumental in 3 of the most promising young academy prospects leaving the club last season. all 3 england players. jamie bynoe-gittins to man city, josh brooking to chelsea, diamond edwards to southampton. he was reported to the pfa and efl for his actions
