Ehibatiomhan the obvs absence. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him start

Comfortable 2-0 win anyway. Few nice saves from CBC. Both Clarkes and Craig showed a bit as well.

Very possible.

Surprised there weren't a couple more obvious absences - may suggest that Ince and Hendrik are OK and that one or two others may return, at least to the bench.

Not the best of games.
Coniah the absolute standout with some cracking saves.
Craig decent in midfield, Abrefa good.
Defensively we looked like a bunch of strangers, not impressed at all.
Forwards strolled around, did odds and ends. Nothing there to trouble the first team.

Pretty much this. Craig caught the eye for me and CBC did everything well and calmly.
A bit disappointed with John Clarke but this was only one game and he needs time, like all the others.
No one really looked ready for the first team, although Craig was the closest on this showing.

Echoing the praise for CBC and Abrefa.

Scott looked good first half, always seemed to have loads of time. Second half he got caught on the ball a few times and missed a few tackles.

Forwards need to get better at being available for the ball, whether that’s about making runs or winning headers or holding it up. Clarke took his goal well after a good pass from Osorio, and Tula bundled his in as well, but none of the attacking players really had enough touches of the ball.

Defensively matching up with the first XI then, should make any transition easy when needed.

Even though Reading are not involved one or two might be interested in the info that the Premier league international cup(U21) is back in 22/23.

You’re right - I keep calling Michael Craig “Michael Scott”.

Definitely enjoyed seeing us against some really big name teams. Just a shame we didn’t get to do any European away trips.

What was the game where a load of away fans turned up in where 1871 is now- was it Bayern Munich ? it made for a cracking atmosphere- i remember they had a massive banner.

Yes, Bayern. They also had giant skittles with the badges of all the clubs they'd already knocked out (it was our first European semi-final!) and they kept knocking them over and down the stand - brilliant way of celebrating a cup run.

We've signed four more kids for the U21s https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2022/a ... u21-squad/

20-year-old central midfielder Ethan Burnett, 18-year-old winger Adrian Akande, 17-year-old defender Ayyuba Jambang and 18-year-old midfielder Josh Green.

None of them are eligible for the first team this season.

Seems to me that we're increasingly signing players who have been released by other clubs - is this a statement that development through our academy isn't good enough perhaps? Other teams like Brentford and Huddersfield scrapped their academies completely and rely totally on signing other clubs' off-casts. I know a lot of that is dictated by geography as both those teams have lots of big club academies nearby who swallow up all the best talent.

I know Dai likes the academy structure and we're re-applying for Cat 1 status already. But if we had a new owner with less deep pockets then cutting the academy to a Brentford model could work given our proximity to all the London clubs and talent pool.
