How far is Azeez off the first team? He's on a bit of a purple patch right now.

Wasn't he included in FA Cup/League Cup squads. Can't be too far off.

https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2021/m ... tures-new/

Amongst our Under-23s group, we have offered new deals to striker Thierry Nevers, goalkeeper James Holden and forward Femi Azeez, while left-back Ethan Bristow remains at the club after a clause in his current contract was mutually triggered.

Ryan East, Conor Lawless, Olly Pendlebury, Jayden Onen and Sam Smith have all previously featured for our first team but will seek a new challenge away from the club next season, while Joseph Ajose, Josh Hewitt, Omri Luzon and Augustus McGiff have also been released.

Alfie Anderson, Jordan Hamilton-Olise and Yaw Turkson leave the club at the end of their scholarships as part of our Under-18s reshuffle. Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to wish all those leaving us the very best of luck in their future careers.

We have, however, offered professional contracts to a number of scholars who we look forward to seeing develop their careers within our Under-23s set-up; Irish midfielder Kian Leavy, goalkeeper Harvey Collins, and striker Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan have all been offered pro deals with the Royals, as have midfielder Malachi Talent-Aryeety and winger Lynford Sackey – who, aged only 17, came off the bench to represent the first team in the Carabao Cup at the start of this season.

Any surprises in there? Wasn't Pendlebury well thought of?

As I said in the other thread, Lawless is an absolutely beautiful footballer. Tetek is a more rounded player though.

Pendlebury was wanted by Chelsea when he was 16 but stuck with us instead. Would have thought he would have been persisted with but again, if we’re going to bring through a neat and tidy young midfielder next season then it will probably be Tetek.

Tbh it’s never been harder to follow the U18s and particularly the U23s, so hard to say really whether these are good decisions. But based on what little I’ve seen, I would think Lawless and Pendlebury have futures in the game.

It`s been easier for the fans of the clubs who actually give a thought to their supporters who would always watch the U 23`s and have therefore streamed matches for the fans. 2 teams particularly stand out in this respect Leeds and Wolves who both streamed the away matches they played at Bearwood. Reading fc`s streaming from Bearwood matches NIL !!!!

Nevers has just tweeted his thanks to the club as he leaves. Presumably rejected the contract offered.

https://twitter.com/ThierryNevers/statu ... 0073927685

"Thank you for 9 years of learning and growing
@ReadingFC
. Shoutout to every staff member who has had my back through everything I’ve been through at the club. I leave with full appreciation of the platform you’ve given to me to express myself as a player and person.

Not the greatest of starts - conceded 3 (albeit against the league leaders) with third being scored from inside the opposition's half

He may have been but I didn’t realise he had turned down a new deal.
