Interesting read - seems Ince is picking out Senga, Craig, Abrefa and CBC as potential first Teamers

Bit of a whinge about attitudes again as well

Which is fair enough, if there is an issues - he does appear to want to bring players through, Abrefa and Craig probably the closest to regular minutes.

Interesting* that he states the plan is to look at players released by the bigger PL clubs - if done right it is a good way to improve the first team and potentially have a number of players with decent re-sale value. Carey was involved with the Academy at Spurs wasn't he? So probably has a fairly detailed knowledge of players who may come available esp. from there.

I think he is right with what he is saying though personally, about not putting them in if they are not ready, not getting in just because they are a promising youngster, earning your right to be in the team etc.

I also like some forward-thinking planning about looking at released youngsters from the top clubs in England, as I do think there is a lot of talent there that we can utilise.

I think it's a positive, yet fair, assessment of where we are at with them and I'm sure it does some of the youngsters a lot of good to be getting talked up as well. Providing they stay on track and keep doing the right things, they will get a chance.

From the bits we hear does seem like J Clarke has gone backwards - he was playing a lot under Pauno

Do hope Ehibhatiomhan is also one who is doing the right things as ince says. Thought he looked to have loads of potential, be disappointed if he doesn’t progress

Meanwhile, Noel Hunt talks up Rashawn Scott as 'A phenomenal talent' - no mention of him in the Ince piece though

I find it interesting that suddenly we are getting all these articles on the academy- surely my one man campaign hasn’t finally come to fruition :D My last email to the media dept was somewhat un- complimentary on their efforts reporting on the Academy so maybe they have finally realised that punters are interested in the U18’s and U21’s.

Well with some of the promise our current crop of youngsters have plus all the others that are/have played consistently at this level before, I've always thought we should be building our club around our academy, I bet you could make a competitive XI at this level from academy players in the last decade, probably short in one or two areas (maybe midfield and up top) but we've certainly churned out some talent recently.

Even now, it wouldn't be unrealistic to suggest that we've probably got double figures worth of players in our U21's now that, at some point, could probably make the step up to this level, be it with ourselves or someone else. They may have to drop down a division or two beforehand, but there have/will be a lot that end up making it in the Championship.

might be that now we are a cat 2 academy we are more susceptible to cat 1 clubs poaching our players so we are keeping things under our hat for the time being.

It's a little concerning to me that he only seems interested in young players from outside the club. Bowen, when first team coach much preferred experience. First thing he did was drop Omar Richards . All of which is a manager/Head Coach's prerogative but the evidence of what we've seen and heard would suggest that seeing a large number of our Academy players playing regularly in the future is hopeful at best.

Seeing a large number is always hopeful at best and I would be surprised if it has ever happened outside early rounds of the cup. In any given season, the goal would be to have 1 or at most 2 break into the team/squad - I would suggest that as this season is a little out of the ordinary, we may not see that unless Craig or Abrefa get a run as a results of injury and become undroppable but next season, you would hope that we see a return to the norm and a couple being around the 18 if not starting each week. Abrefa has to be the most likely.

For this season, it would be good if in the next 11 days of the window we see 2 or 3 of the players rated by the club getting out to L1 or L2 and getting first team minutes, ideally in a team doing well.

Really don't understand why Camara, who looked really bright, has gone absolutely nowhere and seems off the radar.

Good question. Possibly again like Clarke maybe Ince has an issue with his attitude

Guess some of these lads are still very young relatively - think Craig is a touch older, but most are still teenagers. Hopefully we can get them properly progressing next year

One thing I find frustrating is the lack of decent loans for a lot of these players, if they are as decent as we’re led to believe then surely a few of league 1/2 clubs should be enquiring about taking them for 6/12 months or so?

A lot of it can depend on other factors. For instance, our injury record over the last couple of seasons during our embargo has been ridiculous, so that is giving opportunities to some of the youngsters in our U21's because we haven't had the capacity to bring others in as easily as we'd like, which may be a reason as to why some of the youngsters don't go out on loan.

There may just be a general feeling sometimes that the player(s) is best kept at the club to develop, rather than going out on loan because he doesn't suit the way a club plays, for example.
