Team for QPR (H)

by St. Brynjar » 02 Nov 2013 19:56

Think a fair few might lose their place after that. I have no idea who will be back, but I'll guess that Bridge, Sharp & Drenthe will be in contention.

Goalie is a toss-up, McCarthy didn't cover himself in glory but Adkins has clearly decided he's number one and will want to support him. Defence has to change, we should go 4-4-2 and I think the midfield needs freshening a bit.

----------------------------------McCarthy-------------------------------------

Gunter------------------Baird-------------Morrison------------------Bridge

McCleary--------------Akpan-------------Guthrie------------------McAnuff

--------------------------Pog----------------Sharp-----------------------------

Potentially put Gorkss at CB.

Subs: Federici, Kelly, Pearce, Drenthe, Alf, Obita, Akpan/HRK

Federici

Gunter
Gorkss
Morrison
Bridge

Drenthe
Guthrie
Baird
McAnuff

Pog
ALF

Subs: McCarthy, Kelly, Pearce, Williams, McCleary, Obita, Sharp

Federici back in goal, Gorkss can't do any worse than Pearce and will want to play well against his old club and Drenthe in from the start. No HRK in the starting line up or on the bench as quite frankly I've had enough of him his lacklustre performances since signing his contract and he needs a jolt. Most important is Jobi back in as we've missed his quality.

Guthrie Baird
McCleary Kanu McAnuff

Cummings
Gorkks
Federici
Le Fondre
Akpan (Sharp if fit)

Frustrating you have to have fullback on the bench to cover Bridge

I'd say both keepers are on a par right now.

Less frustrating once you realise you can name 7 subs.

Yes, well overdue. Obita's not a starter yet. He needs a while coming on late for impact.

Aslong as we don't go back to 442, I don't mind.

Here go the football snobs with their Mrs Bucket impersonations. Systems are just a reason for people to feel clever, players are what matter and we have some of the best wing players in this league so let's use them properly.

Things are that bad people are selecting McAnuff to start a game. He's great as an impact sub, but not a starter any more.

Morrison took a knock. There's more chance he will miss out and Gorkss come in that Pearce be dropped.

Get back to 4-4-2 and stop dicking around! It works for us, we're a more balanced side when set up like that. Get the balls to the wingers and get the ball in the box for two of the best strikers in this division to feed of off. This 4-3-2-1 or 4-2-3-1 doesn't suit us.

Yeh and be unprepared for the Prem and come straight back down. 442 is short sighted fix.

...Kelly..Morrison..Pearce..Bridge

.......Williams.Guthrie.....McAnuff

McCleary
...........................ALF
...................Pog

Basically, 4-4-2 going forward, 4-5-1 deep and in defence. In theory the slighly lopsided shape might also help in pulling the ooposition out of their formation and allow players to pick up some space between the lines.

After a good start, Baird has looked pretty mediocre to me in the last couple of games I've seen. It also puts most of the players we've got who've been doing damage in attack on the pitch. The only one really missing is Drenthe, but he seems a bit of a luxury in a team that seemingly has started to struggle in the middle. And he's only really threatened and won freekicks, not actually delivered.

oxf*rd knows what Adkins will do. Stick out 4-4-2 with the odd change or switch to one upfront at the expense of ALF, despite his excellent scoring record probably.
