Mr Angry Just Stoke and Exeter that I didn't go to.

Is that because you're not committed enough to venture to away games?

It's true though. Elm Park, the average must have been about 2500 to 3500. Mad Stad, the average is about 12k - 13k these days - so there is a significant difference.

Sutekh
strap Think this is the lot ...

The Exeter Associate Members Cup game would have stumped most people.

Strap - I thought we beat Darlington 4-2 on penalties that night not lost to them....

Good call - quite right. Many thanks.

We had 18 attempts to their 7 and still had to come from behind 3 times to force extra time. Peter Mate, (remember him?), equalised in the 88th minute via a goalmouth scramble on his only ever game for RFC. Peter Mate, Ulises de la Cruz and Andre Bikey - were making their Royals debuts.

We could have been out in the shoot out too. David Stockdale saved Steven Hunt's penalty but was adjudged to have moved from his line, allowing Hunt to fire home the re-take and tee up a spot-kick win that was sealed by Andre Bikey. We finally won 4-2 in the shoot-out.

Is anyone really surprised that Kes is so backward he thinks it's still circa 1998 - 2002?

I've surpressed that Northampton game, Hamer was awful that night.

strap tee up a spot-kick win that was sealed by Andre Bikey.

My second favourite Reading penalty, after Murty v QPR. Everyone expected him to blast it, but he was cool as anything.

My favourite shoot out has to be the U18s v Liverpool last season. Perfect taking to end a brilliant match.

IIRC at the time the latest ever finish to a English professional match (or something)

8pm ko (which was delayed by the big crowd (relatively)).

All meant it was almost 11pm when it finished.

Great night, but annoyingly I had to leave early to catch the last train home. I left it as late as I could, hoping I'd see our winning goal, but had to leave a few minutes before the end. I could hear the roars for the penalties as I ran down the Oxford Road.

Somehow I just knew we'd win, and I heard the cheer which I knew meant we'd won as I was passing Burger King, catching the train with just a few minutes to spare.

I could have stayed, but the thought of having to sleep on Platform 4A wasn't appealing even if we'd won, let alone if we'd lost. I have a feeling I didn't even have enough cash on me to buy a ticket the next day either.

iirc that performance let to McCarthy leapfrogging him and Hamer being the one sent on loan instead. Now they're both in the Premier League.

Excluding Andersen, who was the last 'keeper to play for Reading in a competitive professional match who hasn't also played in the Premier League?

It's Jamie Young isn't it?

Who was the last one to start in a competitive professional match for Reading? Howie I presume?

That's a pretty good record of quality 'keeper's for a team that's only spent three seasons in the top flight, all in recent times.
Federici, McCarthy, Hamer, Stack*, Hahnemann, Ashdown.

*Arse, just realised Stack never played in the PL, just the league cup for Arsenal.

I tried to put together a detailed list of penalty shoot-outs some years ago, an archive of which you can find here (doesn't include the Northampton game):
http://web.archive.org/web/20111008023142/http://www.btinternet.com/~rfc1871/news/features/penalty.htm

There was one piece of information I could not find anywhere - which team went first in the Exeter shoot-out. I've checked reports in local papers at both ends, asked people who attended, and even asked the player who took our last kick (Kevin Dillon).

There is a video of one goal here:

Anyone sitting on a video of the shootout part?

7 out of 8 for me - Missed the Exeter game.

Was a sh*t drive to Stoke that evening as there were numerous accidents / delays on the M6.
