I've signed up for the new era!

The most excited I have been as a Royal for a little while. Was excited when Stam took over and even more excited with how he has changed the philosophy of the club over the summer.

Sounds like we played some nice football and Swift's goal showed real technique, I think Stam will get the very best out of him.

Also looking forward to seeing how Méïte and Mendes fit into this side.

Hope to get down to a game this season and hopefully this is the start of a good season!

Maneki Neko lets not slag the announcer - he read both teams out before the game, in a normal voice, and then just shut up. no histrionics, no shrieking Americanisms.
spot on.
was there a lack of goal music after the goal too? or did I just miss it?

I also saw the new seating area outside the east stand - looks a nice touch and is the best solution to a ground outside of town with no nearby pubs.

^^^yeah, walked past, and this place looked good and was packed.

well done RFC

Did he at least tell you to back the boys and make some noise?

no.

tidus_mi2 We missed the first couple minutes due to foolishly deciding to get the new home kit, got in the queue at 2:30 and didn't get out until after kick off.

Also there was goal music, it started off quiet at first but it was there, new song.

wot song?

I must have been swept up in the joyousness and missed it

There was one, no clue what it was. Get the feeling we'll have different goal music depending on who scored, it'll be like having a theme tune for each player. Hey that gives me an idea for a thread....

Was it a new stadium announcer or DJ megaparty just chilled out a bit?

Interesting that the game v Preston at the end of last season despite the terrible season drew a bigger crowd than the game on Saturday.

What happened to new season optimism?

Had that last season and look what happened so definitely a case of once bitten twice shy. Plus after 2.5 season of utterly shocking home performances and results it was hardly surprising.

If the Preston game is an indicator of our season to come then crowds will pick up no question, especially if, after the team has had more time to get used to playing with one another that the performances more closely resemble the first half in particular, we'll be in for a good season.

A solid start to the season against a Preston team that really didn't offer a lot. But, as they say, you can only beat whats in front of you.

All the new lads did well. I love Joey VDB already. An inspiration to fat blokes everywhere.

Williams was all over the pitch, and we're a different team when McCleary looks fit/interested.

My only concern is up front where we seem very light. Have never been convinced by Rakels I'm afraid and his miss really was poor!

We might be struggling for goals unless we address this soon!

It was Zombie Nation wasn't it? Y'know that dance song from the early 2000s? Or have I made that up/misremembered entirely?

regarding attendance - I was astonished it was 15000ish.

Only surprised as last season I've seen the ground less full but with a bigger attendance read out.

I have read on here that people think they inclusive STH whether they turn up or not - maybe the 15000 on Saturday was actually the more accurate number. If it were last season it would have been read out as 17000 or something
