And despite that, they remain 9 (or poss 3) points behind us with a game in hand -

phew, I thought you meant they have a game in hand on us.

to be clear, after tonight we will be on the same number of games.

Yes, both have 9 games remaining after we play tonight.

Would be a massive boost for us if we are to (somehow) win tonight.

Maybe it's time to take a leaf out of the book of those fighting around us at the bottom, try taking the game to the opposition more rather than just being passive and letting games pass us by where the opposition ultimately determine the result. It's what we did when Ince arrived last year and that's one of the reasons why we stopped up.

Yep and probably with the same gap as anything other than a Blackburn win will be a pleasant surprise.

Stranded Blackpool was a freak result brought on by an early penalty and QPR mentally collapsing as they were losing. Again. Including the penalty Blackpool scored with their first 3 efforts and 6 of 8 shots on goal went in.

In isolation it is absolutely nothing to worry about, they were going to win a game eventually - they have Coventry and a derby v Preston up next which will be much tougher than playing the other hooped shitshow that they faced last night.

And despite that, they remain 9 (or poss 3) points behind us with a game in hand - as you saw last night, strange results happen at this stage - so whilst I expect nothing bar a comprehensive defeat tonight, if we do somehow find a way to win then that result (again in isolation) will have no impact on our position.

They had 8 shots on goal, we normally manage one and a couple of headers over the bar .

Yep, our inability of late to even fashion a shot has no baring on them having one of those nights where everything goes in.

First half reminded me of Adkins last game at Brum where the game was actually pretty even but they had 5 shots and every single one went in whereas our efforts didn't.

You are probably right that it was a freak result (which greatly helped their goal difference) however they have sussed that if you have shots on target you might score goals whereas if you continue to have 0 shots on target you can't win games.

I am stating the bleedin' obvious but we really have to do something about creating chances and quickly.

Could equally argue our result against them was a freak.

It wasn't though, our home form until the last two games has been strong.

Based on the games since, agreed.

However, less so I think given 2 points - 9 of our 13 wins have come against bottom half sides of which Blackpool are certainly one and at the time of beating them we were on a run of 6 unbeaten at home and 6 games (incl 1 cup) of scoring at least 2 in a game at home.

2 wins in 7 isn’t it.... including disappointing performances and results against a QPR heading into freefall and an out of form Watford.

One of few times we've score 3 or won by 2.

Narratives. We've been edged out by two promotion-chasing sides, even when we were poor against Millwall, we weren't blown away and we could have easily got something (we just need to learn to shoot!) and Sheff United we probably deserved something.

It's 3 wins in 7 (Swansea, Blackpool and Rotherham), 2 draws (QPR, Watford) and 2 defeats (Millwall, Sheff Utd). You could argue the only real disappointing/unexpected result on paper was QPR at home, the rest was maybe what you'd expect.

I wouldn't say it was a freak against either Blackpool or Rotherham in recent times, it's what you'd expect to be honest. Providing we can do that against Hull, Birmingham and Wigan and possibly the odd win somewhere else, we will be ok.

At the time of playing them we were on a run of W3 D2 since the defeat to Preston.

Current home form is now W4 D2 L2 over past 8, which is still pretty decent.

Overall form is W2 L5 over past 7 which is fairly shocking.

Blackpool's Gary Madine has just been ruled out for the rest of the season!! Not sure if he's one of there regular strikers but maybe a bit of good news.

Blackpool have what looks like as comfortable a run in as possible so it wouldn’t surprise me to see them survive. If that happens then not only a points deducted Reading but also Cardiff and QPR (if their nose dive continues) will be feeling very scared.

Hmm not sure about that. It’s full of local derbies, 6 pointers and play off chasing teams - Millwall, WBA, Luton and Norwich who will all be desperate for points

In terms of run ins - if there's is comfortable, then we are lying in room made of soft cushions listening to whale song.

Average position of opponents: Blackpool 11.8, Reading 13.1

Blackpool have to play the sides in 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, who are all either in or within 4 points of the play-offs.

We play 1st, 4th and 9th. of the current top 10.

We both play 11th but Preston is a derby game.

In terms of bottom half - we have 5 games v 13, 15, 18 (all who realistically have little to focus on) and the bottom 2. Blackpool have just 3 games v Brum, Cardiff and Wigan.

Overall, ours is more favourable I would argue.

6 points from those games will be enough.

Not at our end of the table but Kieran Maguire of the Mail reporting Sheffield United are close to administration and are taking drastic cost cutting measures to avoid it.

The league is fcuked, they must still be getting parachute payments too....

They only need to hold out for another week to avoid any points deduction.

Overall though the whole ffp and league/pl setup needs to be taken back to the drawing board and thoroughly reworked if this it true as it’s obviously broken and not fit for purpose. The sooner the fan led review recommendations are implemented as well the better for all.
