Good. This needed to happen as we have far too many midfielders.

Odd that he flew out to Austria earlier today if a deal to sell him had been agreed.

Sunderland messageboard suggests they are paying £450, 000 for him which is good business from our point of view.

Needs regular game time. In a few years time he'll be back playing at a higher level.

Bang average. Good bit of squad thinning.

Tbh thought he was really poor last season. Every game seemed to just pass him by

Looked better in the PO season but no arguments with him being let go at all

Slightly disappointing. Thought he looked like he looked a good player 2 years ago. Had a very poor season last year though so can't begrudge the club for wanting rid.

Could become a really good player if he plays week in week out. Can't see him being in league 1 for long.

He wasn't going to play much this season so it's a good move all around. Just need to shift Joey out too.

There is a lot of sense in this post, but I am disappointed that he didn't kick on from the PO season.

I really thought we had something special with Evans, Swift and Kelly as the midfield 3, however, all 3 were disappointing last season so not surprised Evans is off.

Of which, we will only see 270k given the 40% sell on Man City have on him. Better than nothing as clears out a body who is unlikely to play, clears his wages, which are probably pretty decent and gives us a little bit of cash to reinvest in wages or a small fee.

He's not going to get a game here so it works out best for both parties for him to move on. I think he has the potential to stand out in League One.

Rather have got shot of Aluko and Edwards before Evans.

Suffered last year with the combination of injury blight and cr*p from. So just like nearly every other member of the squad then.

That said it has to be seen a a good move for him as he needs to play regularly and for Reading as thanks to Stam's ridiculous collection policy there is an unsustainable number of them at the club.

But only £450k?

Last year of contract and very unlikely to get a new one, hence the relatively low fee.

Sky Transfer Centre mentioning a fee of £250k - their source seems to be Northern Echo.

Selling young, buying old. Sustainable, I like it.

Not the same physically but similar to Piazon and Pelle Clement in that they look as though they can play but just don't do enough.

I’m not convinced this is the best move. Had a stinker last season but so did pretty much everyone else. Thought he showed enough in the season prior to suggest he’s worthy of keeping to see how he progresses and he certainly wouldn’t be top of my list of midfielders to dump.

There's a decent footballer in there so sorry to see him go and sad that we haven't made the most of his potential. Not sure playing as a true defensive midfielder is his best position. When he arrived he described himself as a box to box type player iirc and had scored a bit for Walsall.

He'll do well in league 1 with a decent run of games. Could do with bulking out a bit though.

I just remember how good he was against Fulham in the two PO games. He kept Cairney really quiet and played a big part in stopping Fulham playing their usual style of football.

he'll be ooc at the end of the season anyway, so prob wouldn't hang around

He is just the sort of player we need to trim from the squad (just not good enough) rather than hang onto in the forlorn hope he might come good.

Amen.

When I see teams like Forest spending £13m on Benfica midfielders while we're boasting Evans, van den Berg and Edwards it's quite clear we've got a long way to go and need to be far more ambitious with recruitment.
