can see it being a tricky one to get. It's an Aussie publication but sales rights are still available in Australia. I can't see a UK distributor for it so it won't find it's way into shops. Looking like an online only purchase unless they sort out their distribution.

Got it from Amazon today. £18 for a 175 page paperback and his time at Reading is done and dusted in 21 pages.

Would never have passed a half competent medical to join us and everyone's a "great lad" except Tommy Burns.

Slightly disappointed, if I'm honest.

To be fair he did have that association with David Beckham which is probably what will actually “sell” the book (certainly to the publisher) so would expect a fair amount of the content to be around that.

My real gripe is that it's quite short and not very well written.

Yay, my stalker's back.

Glad to be of purpose, providing some meaning to your existence. Or is it sexual? I bet you dance with Mother Fist and her 5 daughters every time you quote me.

Run along now, the nurse will wipe down your sheets in a minute.

I'm only part way through it but I reckon it's a pretty good book.

Some really interesting and often quite revealing insights into quite a few characters who were at the club during his time there (including a great story IMO about Mass Sarr) and also a real eye opener for me in terms of illustrating the way that agents operate and the massive amount of power that they wield within the game.

Mass Sarr being overweight and lazy is hardly a revelation.

I seem to remember a big part of his issues being that his wife was living in New York and she had a miscarriage about 4 months after he joined us which all combined to completely fcuk with his head.

Talking of stalkers is there anything in the book about his arrest in 2005 for spying on a woman from bushes outside her house? Pornographic material found in the bush and a discarded bottle of baby oil. He was at a low ebb and drinking heavily at the time apparently.

But that isn't all the book says is it!

It also covers some interesting and, IMO, amusing exchanges between Sarr and Tommy Burns.

Well, it doesn't offer much more than that though, does it? For someone who "spent many evenings with Mass in his appartment by the River Thames listening to all his New York Gangster stories", all the reader gets are 50 odd words about him taking the piss out of Tommy Burns.

For someone with a genuinely interesting story to tell at just about every point of his life it is really poorly written and at £17 for a 170 page paperback, it's dreadfully overpriced for what it has to offer. There's the bones of a story here but nowhere near enough flesh.

Its not like there aren't decent books about journeymen footballers out there (I'm thinking Gary Nelson or Stuart Imlach for starters, even Dunphy's books from the 70s).
