From Despair To Where? It's an encouraging start for Gomes. Disciplinary brainfarts aside, he seems to have the team playing with more solidity and confidence.

Need to get that first win quickly though. Can we recall Novakovich in January?

Nova’ suggested we could. Certainly rather recall him than Sam Smith

Oxford supporting nephew has just messaged me to say that Smith is returning to us as he wants to impress the new manager.
My nephew's added comment was "a good job too, he has been f*****g useless.

BTW on the possession stats, Liverpool have just had 48% and scored 5.

I just hope that Gomes isn't as hung up on possession stats as Stam was and appreciates that so much more needs to be done in and around the opposition penalty area.

Think he scored 3 goals for them, all in checkatrade trophy

Hound Decent highlights for once

Obvs doesn’t tell the whole story but matches pretty much what Denver says. All the threat seems to come through the channels rather than the middle

Still looks like we played some good quick stuff in the approach and some nice moves

Dodgy at the back from corners still...

Very very lucky not to lose that. But yeah, some decent positive play around their box, with Swift and GMac both looking dangerous at times.

Were you at the game??

Sutekh Mick was saying he thought Ilori played well.
Yep, as expected, this system suits him and his attributes. He had a lot of touches and passes today which he relished, and he played with confidence as a result.

Ilori 128 touches. Swift 104.

Windy, yeah, think he thrived with a tall bloke next to him who is dominant in the air, and who organizes things well, which frees him up more to play his game, which he had today in O'Shea (who played well, btw). Don't like him as much with Moore.

Nova, hard to believe he hasn't had a decent run here, and may never get one.

Snowflake Royal Lol 67% and 5 shots on target... no goals. At least we didn't lose.

Gotta laugh at our heat map though. Virtually black around their box, whilst our own looks ready to combust.

Away game
Clean sheet.

What more do you want?

A goal? Just one, that's all, to go with our clean sheet. Is it too much to ask? Probably!

Patience. We played 80 minutes on Boxing Day with 10 and Meite and Bod are comimg back from injury and not fully match fit. It will come but IMO, the first step is to make us more difficult to beat.

True. Although the characteristic of a Championship team knocking around the edge of the Play Offs is not being able to consistently stitch long runs of results together and slipping up in daft games or against the top teams. We've seen some decent performances when teams don't put us under pressure before, so we'll have to see what happens.

Nothing to suggest that as yet. Neither team has been set out defensively as you might expect. More likely we'll be relegated playing open attractive attacking football.

If Smith can’t score in the lower divisions he won’t make it in the Championship. He will not only be below Meite and Bodvarsson in the pecking order but Loader and McNulty too.
Seems daft that he is coming back.

Somebody on here said he wanted to come back to impress Gomes.

Personally, I think it's unlikely the loanee would have the say over the parent or loaned to club. I can't see why we'd want Smith back or why he'd have a strong say in coming back, but I can see why Oxford might want shot ahead of the January window given his seeming lacklustre performance.

Smith isn't Football League level, neither is Danny Loader at this point. Both should be loaned out on January 1st without fail.

Yes. Just an excuse to cut his loan short.
