Another game where we play well but fail to get the maximum number of points.

There have been plenty of those this season. Just people are treating it differently because there is a new manager.

A bit fortunate with two rangers efforts off the bar, don`t know how the guy missed the first one, but we had our chances too their keeper made some fine saves.
Probably a fair result on reflection.

TBF it was a bit better but playing this system shows all our old flaws. Lack of goals and more worryingly the way the teams fitness level seems to drop after 70 mins.
I think just after January is when we have to start asking more questions if things are not going well and if new signings don't hit the ground running.....that's if there are new signings.

The worry is that the squad is too big and that’s a problem in it’s self bringing new signings (that we need) makes the squad size even worse.

Need to ship out non performing players even on loan to consolidate the group and add quality.

Tbf, there’s a lot of players who played who have only recently returned from injury and / or not played much recently

Ilori, O Shea, Richards, Aluko, Meite - barely played in the last month, though Richards has had 3 on the bounce now and seems to be improving

To play that well at QPR with that line up is pretty impressive

Hound Decent highlights for once

Obvs doesn’t tell the whole story but matches pretty much what Denver says. All the threat seems to come through the channels rather than the middle

Still looks like we played some good quick stuff in the approach and some nice moves

Dodgy at the back from corners still...

Very very lucky not to lose that. But yeah, some decent positive play around their box, with Swift and GMac both looking dangerous at times.

JR Regardless of result this is very positive - clear impact from the manager’s style of play and not just meaningless possession but a large number of shots.

The future is bright under Jose!

This is no less a reasonable perspective than we get from our resident wrist slitters eagerly posting their predictions of the worst case scenario.

Can you imagine the howls of outrage had we been challenging for the play offs but couldn't beat relegation strugglers at home :|
That's how close this division is.

If we were getting hammered every week things would be looking ominous, but with nearly half a season left it really wouldn't take much to turn a few narrow defeats into wins or draws, especially if our new man can get an away point with this injury ravaged squad of comparative strangers.

The upcoming window should be largely about off loading some deadwood but the judicious loaning of a hungry top flight and currently idle striker could be invaluable.

The fan base needs to keep those glasses half full.

Yeah, Jan will be interesting. No idea how much we're going to spend. Could be a lot, could be nothing.

I like Meite, but at this stage he doesn't have what you might call a good 'feel' for the game. Also think he's one of those players where if he misses games, his fitness levels drop quite a bit, and it then affects his game when he returns, more so than it does some other players (Rooney was a bit like that). Meite might be a game or two away yet, from getting up to speed, getting all his timing and confidence back, etc.

Sutekh Mick was saying he thought Ilori played well.

Yep, as expected, this system suits him and his attributes. He had a lot of touches and passes today which he relished, and he played with confidence as a result.

There’s also been plenty of games where we’ve failed to get any points, especilly away at pretty good teams. Don’t see anyone getting carried away. A point is a point and hopefully it’s one in the right direction.

Snowflake Royal Lol 67% and 5 shots on target... no goals. At least we didn't lose.

Gotta laugh at our heat map though. Virtually black around their box, whilst our own looks ready to combust.

Away game
Clean sheet.

What more do you want?

Ilori 128 touches. Swift 104.

We played well and fully deserved a point. Swift was excellent, also well played Richards and Rhinamota. Pubs near Loftus Road dismal, also charging £5:00 for a bottle of Carlsburg, at least Dick Turpin word a mask

It's an encouraging start for Gomes. Disciplinary brainfarts aside, he seems to have the team playing with more solidity and confidence.

Need to get that first win quickly though. Can we recall Novakovich in January?

Nova’ suggested we could. Certainly rather recall him than Sam Smith

I really enjoyed that today, we made a supposedly good QPR side look average at best, yes we are work in progress but the passing style we played today looked to have a purpose about it and was played at a faster pace than under Jaap Stam's reign.
If we can get the fitness/injury issues sorted out and get a few wins under our belt this team really doesn't need tweaking that much, more of just trimming the size of the squad to a more manageable level.
Somebody mentioned Aluko earlier and that CAM position being his preferred position, and today i really liked what i saw and i hope he gets a run of games in this role to really see if he can recapture his form from his Fulham days.
Also, i think Richards is starting to look a much better player after getting a run of games and it clearly shows that playing players in their preferred positions is the way to go.
Today's performance was clearly head and shoulders above some of the recent performances and if this is the effect Gomes has installed in just a week then i really can't wait to see what he can do with a fully fit squad with a few new faces to freshen up the side.

A goal? Just one, that's all, to go with our clean sheet. Is it too much to ask? Probably!

Oxford supporting nephew has just messaged me to say that Smith is returning to us as he wants to impress the new manager.
My nephew's added comment was "a good job too, he has been f*****g useless.

BTW on the possession stats, Liverpool have just had 48% and scored 5.

I just hope that Gomes isn't as hung up on possession stats as Stam was and appreciates that so much more needs to be done in and around the opposition penalty area.
