He really was. My favourite Reading striker since I started watching.

Mine too.

I can understand that. Kitson was fantastic for us and a clever clever player. Fuzzy at his best was almost unplayable at this level. He played the lone striker role quite brilliantly.

See I love Kits but no one could get you out of your seat like Fozzy. He terrified defenders with his pace.

Not like Long did by simply just sprinting at them, he would start in his own half and beat 3 or 4 players with skill. Great player.

Haha that face fills me with such happiness.

Ballgreedy **** but he bloody well knew where the goal was.

A team full of parkies and fozzies and we'll be fine.

Shame it's a team of Bodins and Drenthes we've actually got.

Haha.

Sad it may sound I might actually prefer Bodin over any left back option bar Obita we've had in the last few years.

And I used to sing the "you got tackled by Bodin, lalalal!" every game haha.

Ok maybe that's OTT. I'd certainly not mind Steve Swales or Even Andy Gurney back. That's really saying something about our state of affairs.

How far back? Think we have been blessed with LBs over the years: Harte, Bridge, Shorey were just before Obita made it his spot. Since his injury we have struggled, I grant you.

Nostalgia!

And Obita of course gets better every week that goes by without playing. He'll have some expectations to live up to when he returns.

He'll be transferred straight into the Arsenal First Team
and an England regular, during his first warm-up

IF he returns and can perform to the same level. Really hope he is back and performing even better asap but it's going to be near enough two years out by the time he's back.

Anyone else find it amazing that the club has persisted to use right backs, an inconsistent left back and a youngster in that role rather than bring in proper left back cover (even on loan). Yet the number of midfielders constantly being added to the squad has to be seen to be believed.

And JG so far appears to be continuing the trend to amass midfield options like they're rarer than a Reading win.

100% spot on.

I'm absolutely stunned despite our desperation for a leftback, CB, keeper, striker and overabundance of midfielders, we have already got one midfielder in and are looking for another. WIth the people above JG gone this decision has to be JG's presumably. I know it's early in the window, but that's exactly what people said in Stam's failure of a transfer window. We were even linked with a midfielder on transfer deadline day!

But yes it's early. In Gomes we trust!

3 midfielders have been taken out of the squad though, so worst case we are -1, currently -2 in that department

Looks like Gomes must have done some work under Arsene Wenger with this proliferation of “creative” midfielders

Yep and in 2002/03 he was fantastic. Without him we were a much weaker side.

I agree. From that McGhee team Gooding was favourite. Absolute class player, tidy, hard working - had everything how he never played at the top level is baffling. Before that I loved Gilkes. Just because the defender knew what he was going to do - he did it anyway. He could be a little erratic, however, with his final ball.

edit: The Nogan, Lovell partnership was something as well.

Sadly I never saw Gilkes at his best.

Quinn was amazing. Lacked some pace but supreme in the air and a very intelligent, experienced striker when he came to us. He scored 35 League goals for us in our promotion season. Legend.

Check out Youtubes Reading 3 Wolves 0 (30/04/1996)

A face in that crowd, one of my most favourite goals ever.

“You’ve not seen nothing like Jimmy Quinn”
