Nameless Reading one of the arsenal fan sites their thoughts seem to be that Arsenal must rate him as they wouldn’t have kept him on the payroll so long and he’s been in the impossible position of always having 2 experienced keepers ahead of him in the squad so limiting his opportunities.
Is he the first Argentinian to play for us

Plus, he will have occupied a ‘foreign/overseas’ spot on Arsenal roster which are limited/restricted, for the last half dozen years or more, so yes they clearly rate him.

He actually counts as homegrown so it's probably just a case of him happy to be third choice.
Didn't establish himself as first choice at either wolves or Sheffield wed, not convinced he's any better than what we have .

I think he'll be more comfortable with ball at feet given the way Arsenal have played throughout his time there, so despite his lack of game time, he will be used to the system Gomes has put in place.

Stranded Assume he is better with his feet and therefore more comfortable than the options we have in playing Gomes' style.

Looking at his career, hard to get a feel of how good he is but bare numbers are:

Premier League
Apps 6 Clean sheets 3

Championship
Apps 32 Clean Sheets 9 (5 at Wolves, 2 each for Wednesday and Rotherham)

La Liga
Apps 4 Clean Sheets 2

Also managed 2 CL and 1 EL appearance , keeping clean sheets in 2 of those.

At 26 he needs game time - would be interesting to see if this is a pure loan or if we have an option to turn it permanent if successful. Would this be the first loan keeper since Hahnemann? Mind gone blank if there have been others.

Wait he's only 26?? Was our league cup game is first appearance or something?!

It was his 3nd 1st team game: 1 for Oxford and he played in a 6-1 win over Coventry in the round before.

He was 20 years old at the time of the 7-5.

Yep, just a youngster but, as usual, fingers would point at the keeper in such a loss. Seem to remember that it was the rest of his team that were so poor in the first half of that game.

Really? Arsenal would hold onto a third choice keeper for ages when he's no better than Jaakkola, Walker and Mannone?! It's not as though they would have difficulty attracting decent keepers.

Said in his interview, playing the ball out from the back was one of the strongest aspects of his game

So yep, fits the system if true

Sadly a big difference between Mannone in his earlier years and Mannone now.

Anyway talking to a Gooner today, he was really surprised that they'd loaned him out. He said that he is a really good keeper, very comfortable with the ball at his feet and has excellent distribution. In other words, should fit our/Gomes' requirements perfectly.

Whilst Cech will be gone at the end of the season, Ospina will be returning so, fingers crossed, if all works well Martinez will be keen to join us permanently and Arsenal prepared to let him go for the right price.

Mannone wasn’t great in his early years as Arsenal. Remember him playing for Hull on loan at the Madejski and he looked like a mistake waiting to happen.

Something none of our current keepers possess.

Looking at the lack of appearances during his career it's not exactly a stretch to say this isn't the most thrilling signing.

Then again a certain Mr M Hahnemann had made less than 10 appearances in English football when he rocked up on loan from Fulham.

Interesting that Charles watts says he's actually not very comfortable with the ball at his feet.
