MATCHWATCH : Bristol City (a) sponsored by Scott Murray

by Sutekh » 11 Apr 2019 17:29

When : Friday 19th April, 12.00pm
Where : Ashton Gate, Ashton Road, Bristol, BS3 2EJ, Bristol
Capacity : 27,000
Away Stand : One end of the stadium in the Atyeo Stand
What might I see in the area : Wurzels

Need to do this one early as I won’t be near a computer next week (yippee!)

After the wild celebrations/utter dejection of Brentford everyone’s off to a Good Friday knees up in the west country for a game with a ridiculous kick off time (no it is not on the telly).

Bristol City are, rather unfortunately, rather good this season so it’s going to be another game where everyone has to get their heads down and battle like they did at Carrow Road.

Pending their awkward trip to Villa on Saturday City are currently the footballing equivalent of Mr Average with 3 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats from their last 9 games however it should be noted that they have not lost since 9th March (might change for them at at Villa of course) and the 3 wins they have managed have been over WBA and away at Middlesbrough and Leeds so this lot are very dangerous on their day.

The upside of that form though is that same run has also contained home draws with Wigan and Ipswich so they do appear to have weaknesses against relegation strugglers which hopefully Reading can get to understand and exploit effectively.

Referee

Not yet confirmed

Historically

Many a season has been shared with the red half of Bristol with this being the 46th league visit face City.

Reading have amassed 14 wins from the previous 45 games compared to City’s 24. City do have an unfortunate habit of scoring though as they average around 2 goals a game in this fixture.

The last 10 games at Ashton Gate are very even with 4 wins apiece though so it’s not unknown for Reading to sneak something but it is very rare for Reading not to be on the receiving end of a battering no matter what the final score.

How to follow the game

  1. Get a ticket and travel to the game
  2. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  3. Ring/text a mate for updates
  4. Use an iFollow subscription
  5. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

Would love to stuff the angry pirates. Another 3-2 comeback after being 2 down would be great.

As I won £1,200 the last time, I have to agree

I was hoping/expecting a win. In a hotel in London and saw we were losing
2-0. Was "angry" and bet a tenner on us winning.

I heard the final score was 2-2 and I thought, sheesh.

Then I heard the actual final score.

It was a weird game, much like most of our season we didn’t actually play very well, at all. Even when we pegged one back didn’t get the sense we’d get anything out of it. The equaliser was a real surprise which obviously we celebrated a lot. Then the winner went in and and we just lost our shit. Scenes.

Good write up, but they won away at Sheffield Utd not Leeds.

Anyone actually know why we kick off at 12? Every other game is at 3 apart from games live on the telly

Really? I thought the complete opposite. Even at 2-0 down i thought we would still win (may have been influenced by the 3-2 win the tuesday night about 8 years ago, when 2-0 down) and attempted to put a bet on, however the signal in the stadium was useless and i ended up missing out

Gomes said Swift is more than likely out for the rest of the season.

Nah I would think he will set up something like the Norwich game, we dont have to take the game to them.

would mean dropping Oli, Barrow or Meite though which won't happen

Shame Eza is a loanee or else I'd have him back on the bench

Funny that isn't it? We've needed Ezatolahi all season and now, with Swift injured and Ejaria performing admirably, we have no space for him.

Great sub to have though if we need to hang on for a win/point late in the game. Good option.

Sorry I meant we cant fit him in. The other loanees are killing it right now and theres no 6th allowed.

Eza can`t be on the bench without dropping one of the loanees from the mathday squad altogether. they are all playing well so doubt we will do that.

other problem is he'll be obviously rusty. If he was fully fit, I'd consider him other Ejaria for the away games, but being as he hasn't played for 6 months, that probably wouldn't be wise
