I doubt they would even waste a thought on some niche 'record'. Another CL win just blows away an ultimately meaningless points record. There are no medals for setting 'records', we've not got '106' embroidered on our shirts.....

Football is all about bragging rights and these types of achievements. You may have noticed that our fans care more about the 106 record than they do about us winning the Simod Cup. And the 'Invincibles' are considered better than any English side that won a CL title.

Is that not just because it is a) more recent and b) the Simon Cup doesn't exist anymore, therefore those under 30, might not know what it is?

And C) any football fan trawling through the Guinnes Book of Records comes a cross a big picci of that legendary 106 team for the highest points record. :D

Looking more and more likely that Liverpool are going to take the points record from us . . . .

Will still take some doing.... max total they can reach is 112. Just hope some draws (a few of them) slip in there.

Our points record is not relevant to the Premier League, or any time there's been a different number of games

If Liverpool top 106pts then fair play to them. It would be a phenomenal achievement with 8 fewer games.

That's certainly one point of view.

It's looking like we're going to need to find something else to sing about . . . . . .

It’s always been a Football League record. Far more important to hold the record for the oldest league in the world as opposed to a very newly created TV vehicle....

Indeed. And I *will* enjoy Man Citeh passing through our division with the U14 squad.. As someone once sung, It’s a Mad World...

With the league title in the bag, they will drop off. Very hard to keep going once you've done enough.

They will also start resting players up for the Champions League.

I think you grossly underestimate the mentality of this Liverpool side and it's manager. They will not ease off, I'm not sure they really know how. As for the CL, they have to get past Atletico first before resting players for the CL even becomes a consideration.

They will ease off. Its human nature. Its a question of how much.

I think the incentive to go unbeaten may drive them on

I'm OK with unbeaten - 4 more draws will do

I'm interested - do people think we will still sing '106' if Liverpool beat that points total? I understand that technically it's a football league - 46 games a season record, but I would find it a bit embarrassing if we continued with the song.

Why ?
Every club sings that they are by far the greatest team the world has ever seen, despite it not even being ‘technically’ correct.
Liverpool setting a PL record doesn’t change our record.

106 is the championship record

liverpool getting more would be hugely and insanely impressive, but not anything to do with our record
