Predict the final 2019/20 Championship table

by morganb » 19 Feb 2020 13:46

https://www.worldfootball.net/table_cal ... mpionship/

So, will Reading reach the play-off spots or fall tantalisingly short of the top 6?

When you have a spare 5 minutes use your skill and judgement to predict the outcome of every team's final 13 games to see who the top 6 will be and where Reading will finish.

Don't forget to post your top 6 / Reading's position results below.

1 WBA 94
2 Leeds 90
-----------------------------------
3 Nottingham Forest 86
4 Brentford 85
5 Preston 82
6 Fulham 81
-----------------------------------

8 Reading 78

(I was a tad bias with the Reading results and this was where they came - to be honest I don't expect them to reach the top 10)

Think you have an error or two there, Morgan

RFC are on 42 points with 13 games left, so would need to win 12 out of 13 games to get 78

Did you mean 68?

Hmm.... Possibly! I was doing this at work this afternoon and only meant to post the link but then thought I'd have a go and may have rushed it a bit/mistyped the results. I'll have another go later to see if I can come up with something more sensible....

Must be 68 - you'd be exceptionally unlucky to finish 8th with 78 points....that's been enough for auto promotion some seasons...

I have it that West Brom and Leeds just about make it with Forest, Brentford, Bristol City and Fulham in the play off places.

Reading 15th on 59. I wasn't particularly generous to us on some of our home games as I fear some 'winnable' matches could end up disappointingly.

I've remembered what I did now!

I was trying to see how the table would look if Reading won practically all of their remain games and the table I posted showed that they'd still fall short even if they went on a totally unrealistic run of results. I think I predicted all the other games sensibly though.

I will have a more realistic go later on and post my revised predictions on here.

Personally I’d be happy with a lovely mid table no alarms and no surprises end to the season after the last few years. Maybe if we could just knacker up Brentford’s attempts at promotion too, I’d be perfectly okay with that.

I'm not going to predict the league table, but want to pour cold water on relegation worries.

We have 42 points. From the last 9 matches, since Fulham, we have had 7 points. This run has involved Leeds, WBA, Forest x2 and Millwall.

If we repeat this form over the next 9 matches, which is a far easier run on paper, we will be on 49 points with 3 games remaining, meaning we would almost certainly reach 50 points. Add in Joao coming back, I simply don't see how relegation is a realistic possibility. Hypothetically we could lose all 12 remaining games. Realistically we won't.

Of course, just surviving would be disappointing and not show much progress. We should be aiming for 60 points, which would show clear progress from last season. 18 points from 12 needed for that; I reckon perfectly feasible.

+1 with the run of games in front of us 60 should be the aim i think we will end up about 58 but 60 should be the aim and considering the last few seasons I think we all would take that.

Nice one! What was a disgrace was fans booing when Olise made an error letting the ball bounce and getting on a promising young kids back, and our loyal backbone of support, who up until tonight I have thought have been fantastic, singing “we’re oxf*rd shit” after 60 minutes and banging the seats like 10 year olds. A night to forget all round and yes I’d take mid table mediocrity in a heartbeat.

I dislike negativity too and have never boo'd us or our players so I agree with you there. I think that song was fair enough, you can see it as trying to motivate the players to try a bit harder (clearly it didn't work though) . You can't expect fans to endlessly be optimistic when they can see players who aren't really bothered, it's a two way thing.

I've done the championship predictor as Low has put it on Getreading - I was as pessimistic and had us on 52 points but we would still survive easily on that given the games the others down there have
