Favourite Royals Moments?

by Momentacy » 08 Mar 2020 18:34

Hello all,

The purpose of this thread is to feature the best moments from the past and present of the team.

I was wondering if any of you could reply to this thread with your favourite moments. If you have a link to a video then it would be greatly appreciated but if you do not then it is no problem, please just write the moments. I hope that this thread brings back nostalgia to some of you who may have forgotten the best moments from the past.

I like to spend my free time uncovering hidden videos online of football moments, not only from television angles but also from unseen perspectives recorded from the stands.

If you have posted your favourite moments on this thread, expect to see many of them on my Twitter account in the upcoming weeks here;

https://twitter.com/Footyments

I hope that I can give you some great memories!

I will be back regularly to post great media content that you will like.

Thanks for your time!

Forster scoring at home to Wigan in the play-off semi final, would have to be up there for one of the best and earliest memories for me.

This is up there for me:

Right on the stroke of half time. Carnage in the concourse minutes after. Right then I knew we were at Wembley.

Loads to choose from, but In no particular order:

- Newport 0 Reading 2 '85. Amazing number of fans in Somerton to see us break the record. Admit to crying at the final whistle.
- Reading 2 Wolves 2 '85. Did not make it number 14, but what a night at a dangerously crammed Elm Park.
- Reading 4 Plymouth 3 '85. Just the greatest comeback in the club's history. Period.
- Tranmere 1 Reading 3. '95 PO semi-final 1st leg. Probably the greatest away performance ever and the Tranny fans applauded the team off the park. https://youtu.be/MwxI5e06HXU
- Cambridge 2 Reading 2. '76 final whistle and the club's first promotion in 50 years. I just did not know what to do with myself!
- Reading 4 Wolves 2. '94 and first game post-McGhee. Elm Park was emotional that day.
- Reading 2 Bolton 1. '95 and Nogs' late winner. Never ever seen the Tilehurst End go as hatstand as that.
- Reading 3 Hull 1. '05 and my first chance to see the 106ers in action. I could not believe how good we had become and I was convinced even then that we would go up. Blakey's goal was sublime.

Not possible to have one favourite moment unless its winning a trophy.

Simod cup was great....
Liverpool away in FA Cup.....
The mentalness of ALF scoring the third at Soton….
First 45 against Arsenal in THAT game....
The 106 final match.....
Theres always loads you forget as well. Especially 30/40 years ago.

yeah, my answer would have fallen victim to this parody.

Best ever season was that one (75-76) followed by the 106 season.

Loads and loads of disappointment over the years (4 play-off finals notably), which makes the good times sweet.

Favourite ever players:

Gordon Cumming
Robin Friday
Gary Peters (despite bumfluff moustache)
The Rouge
Kevin Doyle
Yann Cormorant

Tranmere (h) in 83/84. Mark White curling in a late free kick to secure an unbeaten record at home for the season and my first pitch invasion.

Hicks' free kick Vs Chelsea in 87

4-0 win at Blackpool in 94 when the home fans clapped us off the pitch followed by a gutsy draw away to Stockport 3 days later.

Wigan at home in the playoffs. I thought the stadium was going to collapse when Forster scored.

3-2 Vs Palace in 2005. Possibly the best game of football I've ever seen.

Winning 6-0 in the Premier League.

Going toe to toe with Arsenal at Wembley.

All defining moments for me.

West Ham?

My son and I had season tickets but we were going to Orlando so we lent our STs to one of his school mates and his dad who were (a) West Ham fans and (b) Had recently won £16 Million on the lottery.

They didn't even bung us the £40 quid.

Oxford 1 Reading 2 in May 83. The day of the Thames Valley Royals demo. King Kerry scored from the penalty spot.

Reading 2 Wolves 2. in 1985. I hadn’t been to any of the first 13 games. It was heaving.

Simod Cup semi final v Coventry and the late late finish due to delayed kick off and pens

Simod Cup final v Luton and the roar when Gilksey got on the ball

Reading 2 Wolves 1 c 1997 when Archie scored two in injury time

Reading 3 West Ham 0. Kebe. Sockgate. West Ham implosion. West Ham mates in the South Stand made it sweeter

Holding Arsenal to extra time in the FA Cup semi final

Horrible biased Liverpool fan in work. When Harper scored the third (?)against them at the Mad Stad.I kept the guy stewing all day, until he thought he had got away with it;in the office the following Monday.
That big Wet Sham win was pretty cool also.

How can you say sockgate ? A player who completely disrespected another club's players because they didn't close him down, who was a flakey individual at best who played well on average one game in five, and then later on refused to play for the club to get a move away.
