Would add Sean Morrison in, probably in place for Dickie
Think I’d have Bacuna as backup RB instead of Howe too

Yeah good shouts. Thought about Morrison after I made the post, but had completely forgotten about Bacuna.

Bacuna playing really well for Cardiff at the moment by all accounts. Tracked back, won a tackle to set up their late winner on Saturday.

He has the ingredients to be a very good player, but never really had the consistency or attitude to properly develop himself

Warnock/Harris seem good personalities to get his talent out of him though

Doesn’t qualify as he’s not technically still an active player.

South Coast Royal Seeing a few of our ex-players performing quite well recently I wondered how we might have done fielding a team of players who are still playing but making positive allowance for age in some cases.
I needed to include loan players to get a decent squad so this is my recommendation (4-4-2):-

McCarthy
Stacey Mariappa Cooper Ake
Antonio Chalobah Norwood Henry
Long Murray

Subs:-
Martinez
Dickie
Carrico
Fosu
Pog
Sa
I'm sure I have missed somebody but that looks a good starting eleven to me-out of the current squad I would add Swift , Ejaria, Miazga and (after yesterday) Meite..
Depends who the ex-manager managing them is

Hadn’t seen that.
Not in the squad because I’d rather have Curo or Le Fondre then !

Wouldn’t have thought Lita would be the sort to spin out his career moving round the lower leagues. Curo I get as he just seems to love playing but Lita seemed more about the trappings and status and can’t see Nuneaton Borough funding his Hummer and flash lifestyle !

NewCorkSeth You are sick in the head if you think McCarthy starts ahead of Emi.

He is sick in the head anyway.

Martinez is probably the best goalkeeper who has ever worn a Reading shirt. He's showing his class at Arsenal, he's top drawer.

Shaka

Nope. Remember there is more to goalkeeping than saving shots. Shaka is not the best all around goalkeeper we have had.

He just isn't and you're arguing with a qualified expert. You lose. Sorry.

I was at the Hawthorns for his debut. Steve Francis sat behind us with the hump. Unless you've been on holiday with him, I win 8)

Oh......

In a poll to compile the Royals' greatest-ever XI, Hislop was voted the best goalkeeper with 46.7% of the vote ahead of Steve Death and Marcus Hahnemann.[3] He was also voted joint third along with Death in a poll to decide the club's 'Player of the Millennium'.

TBH it's pretty close between Shaka and Hahnemann and Martinez may eclipse them both - though it's worth remembering Shaka played a part in both seasons Newcastle finished 2nd in the PL - so he was up there as one of the best in the country at the time very shortly after he left us.

I'd probably fall the on the side of Hahnemann as the best FOR us, though that's maybe because I only saw Shaka for about 180 minutes for us, and 45 of that was a pre-season friendly.

All three keepers mentioned are excellent and were excellent for us interestingly in 3 different eras of football. Shaka as a shotstopper and presence was immense, by far the best in the league in his time with us and as you say he did well at Newcastle.
Hahnemann was at the start of the next generation of goalkeeping where distribution came into the game more. Very accurate kicking from his hands, decent enough shotstopper too. I think people tend to favour him slightly more than they should as he was part of the 106 side and the goalie in our golden era. That team were so good on the whole in Hahnemann's time, he was well protected. Not the best on crosses.
Martinez is the modern day keeper and has absolutely all of the attributes needed to play at the very top. His distribution is probably the best I've seen from a keeper live in person and his footballing intelligence is superb. Very commanding on set pieces, great shot stopper. He is excellent at everything which is why I consider him the best.

That's a pretty good post explaining your view.

You should try that a bit more often instead of just telling people they don't know anything and you're right
