EFL Awards.....Young Player of the Season - Michael Olise

by Ascotexgunner » 29 Apr 2021 20:06

Just watching the EFL Awards on Sky.
Congrats to the lad for getting the award......
Don Goodman couldn't big him up enough and hopefully this might drive the price up a bit.
Also Goodman having a love in with Paunovic........shame his commentary doesn't reflect that.

Brilliant. Has a Reading player ever won this award?

It's the first time a Reading player has won a performance based EFL award.

I'm only continuing to watch to see if there are any Reading players in the team of the season. Can only see Olise and Richards being possibly included.

I may be well off the mark here, but does anyone else think he’s been massively overrated? It’s great that he has so many admirers, but I can’t help but think his proneness to go missing in games should contribute against him much more than all the credit he gets for the odd good display.

I think most players can have bad games where they seem to go missing, especially at a young age, I don't think he's overrated at all.

Definitely not massively over rated

18 and at times running the show in an extremely tough competitive division

Obvs he hasn’t always been consistent but still had a good work ethic and contributes most games

A real gem

Really pleased for him. Is he over rated? Nope. Watching him v Forest at the Stadium in December made me appreciate what a special talent he was. He completely controlled the game and was so clever making space for himself.

Have to sell him this Summer really, can't afford to let him go for free next Summer and can't really afford to give him a bumper deal to keep him.

Yep we can’t afford another Richards and Loader situation. I would love to see him stay but we desperately need some incoming money. I shall follow his future with great interest.

Doesn't this "depend"?

If we have some financial freedom and only have to replace Richards
might we hang on to our star, and with a couple of additions, go for promotion?

Agree, selling the lad may help a lot, and don't risk losing a pay-day
but, alternatively, he should be even better next season, and would
therefore be cheap... (presuming the gamble works, of course).

Only worth keeping him if he signs a new deal.

Could we offer him a small raise with a monster bonus for promotion
and agree he could go if we don't go up?

I think he would be looking for more than a small rise. I suspect he will have plenty of offers this summer.

That doesn’t matter and certainly won’t stop a team coming in for him.

If he had the level of consistency you aspire him to have he wouldn’t be playing for a championship side.
