Young Team...

by Snowball » 04 May 2021 13:05

Watched Tetek on RFC Site, realised I didn't know his age (18)

Took a look at the current age of our playing squad. A LOT of kids there!

19 players 25 or under,
12 players 23 or under
07 players 20 or under

We should expect improvement in virtually
all 19 players as they are a long way from fully mature
or near peak age.

Rhino 24, Laurent, Swift, Puscas, Meite, Araruna (25) are not at prime football age yet

Shocked to see Meite is only 25. I'm sure he's been playing for RFC for at least 15 years

Moore at 28 is probably going to see his sell-on value begin to decline

17 Camara
18 Tetek
19 Olise
19 Esteves
19 Azeez
20 Onen
20 Gibson
21 Holmes
22 McIntyre
23 Ejaria
23 Richards
23 Semedo
24 Rhino
24 Watson

25 Laurent

25 Meite
25 Araruna

27 Joao
28 Moore
29 Yiadom
30 Cabral
32 Aluko
32 Baldock
33 Morrison

yeah its pretty promising. Swift being 25 is also a little bit of an eye opener - he really does seem to have been around forever (and normally out with a hammy strain)

He's just had the one hammy strain (2016-2021)

This succinctly explains why at times we've been naive this season.

Obviously, next season a lot of these young players who've had a run in the team will be wiser.

Would love us to work on our fitness too, so we can compete fully for 90s minutes, and not need the first 20 minutes of each game to get into it!

I'm surprised Watson is 24 too. That's mad. Shame it never worked out for him really.

Youth and naivety don't seem to have had a negative impact on Barnsley this season.

They also play up tempo and make life difficult for the opposition.

Young side, true, but zero under 20’s

I think they are far fitter, harder, dirtier than RDG, and no way would I want to cross their manager

Didn’t realise Tetek was still only 18.
Is this the youngest squad we have ever had?

Tetek looks a tidy player, good positioning and comfortable on the ball, really pleased he got some game time on Sat.

Hope he stays, Pauno being manager should help, hopefully

Tidy and solid but not spectacular. Not burst onto the scene the same way Rino did, but lots to be happy about and he's got plenty of room to develop.

Would like to see how he fares against one of the lesser teams, so another start against Huddersfield would be nice.

Rino was that much older when he forced his way into the squad. Tetek is only 18

He looks a bit of a really hard Serbian. I hope he has a bit of a nasty streak because our midfield have been such a bunch of pussies this season and an utter pushover. Hope he starts v Huddersfield. Would like to see more of him.

Obviously will need to see (hopefully here) how he develops but there's no reason if he has a bit of that nasty streak in him I can see him becoming a better version of someone like Ben Pearson.

It wasn't a criticism.

Just wanted to be clear given snowstat thinks saying a teenager is unsurprisingly a bit easily knocked off the ball, or I'm not convinced about someone after a couple of cameos is a criticism

Definitely not. They make this place sound like the Oxford Debating Society

Strangely Newport's season has been very similar to RFC's. They were clear top
then faded horribly, dropped out of the PO places. They are currently back in
the PO's but could drop to 8th if they lose their last game.

Clearly, God is messing with my head.

They are virtually there. All three below have to win and they have to lose for them to miss out. Away at already relegated Southend too. They will make the play offs and I think they will win them too.
