PANTS day was the title of the protest before the acronym Players Are Not Trying Sufficiently became the strap line. Organising a safe, original, humorous protest takes a bit longer than you may imagine. Nobody should risk being banned from the stadium for breaking the rules or put anybody in any kind of jeopardy. Mr Mad did not even try to stop or prevent the protest, in fact he even swung his pants at the game, because the nature of the protest was explained to him before the event. It did seriously piss off Pardew though!
