Goal of the Season

by Hendo » 26 Apr 2022 16:15

In what has been clearly a poor season, we've scored some absolute bangers.

For me:

Ovie v Fulham
Ince v Bournemouth
Laurent v Blackburn

Honourable mention for Joao v PNE.

3 options can be selected on the poll.

Either we have players I’ve never heard of scoring goals in games I didn’t know happened or we have scored a quite unbelievably high proportion of the best goals in the country this year.

Did the video really need to be that long? Had to skip most of the replays.

Laurent`s goal was good, but he had time to control the ball, Tom`s goal was instant and lashed it in, no contest for me.

1st Dowie
2nd Holmes
3rd Laurent
--------
4th Ince

Dowie - good movement and run to find space, great awareness to spot the keeper a little off the line and then perfectly drifted in over the keeper and under the bar, very little margin for error there, keeper almost got a hand on it.

Holmes - you're an Academy graduate Centreback. You score your first senior goal with a good bicycle kick. If you don't score this highly, there's something wrong imo.

Laurent - the control is good. The look to see it and make his decision. But its the extra lift to beat the onrushing challenge that still has perfect dip and swerve to still make the corner that does it for me.

Ince - it's the little touch to drop the ball into a small controlled bounce to allow the great hit that makes this one imo.

For me that's what I like. It's so deliberate. A lot of those spectacular long range net busters are just the one you happen to catch right when frequently they go high and wide.

Laurent's was deliberate and careful execution.

In terms of technical difficulty I'd go for either Laurent or Holmes. Both just great goals.

Going on importance, TMac's Easter double share the award for me. Not exactly net busters but required some real composure and they're the goals that provided the final push to safety (notwithstanding the dreck below us). I know they're not on the list but they're my favourite goals of the season.

Moore's dribble and shot v Bristol City is a shocking omission from the list. I refuse to take part.

Sorry, have I missed something somewhere? Don’t recall Reading playing Leicester or Chelsea this season - and who is the Harries who scored at Birmingham?

Other than that :

Ovie v Fulham
Laurent v Blackburn
Holmes v Hull
And special award for McIntyre v Swansea (for just being the one in the right place at the right time than anything else!)

Laurent vs Blackburn for me, given how big the win was and how in the shit we were. Kicked on after that.

Am I the only one who enjoyed seeing the women's team's goals in there?

A good goal is a good goal, imo. The side foot volley from Harries, I think, was lovely.

Two crackers from the ladies there, the lob from Dowie and a great side foot volley as well.

Still prefer Laurent's curler.

Laurent v Blackburn. I was right behind it in the ED and thought it was going wide. Beautifully placed.
Also such a vital goal at a time when we looked doomed.
