Pre-season games 2022/2023

by morganb » 06 Jun 2022 12:38

Matches announced so far:

The week-long training camp at St George's Park will conclude with a behind-closed-doors friendly fixture against Benfica on Saturday 9 July.

The Royals will travel to Plough Lane to take on AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday 19 July, kick-off 7.45pm.

More pre-season friendlies, which we anticipate will include two matches at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in the final fortnight before the 2022-23 season kicks off, are being finalised and confirmation of our opponents [rumoured to be Premier League teams], kick-off dates and times as well as ticket details will be announced in due course.

Reckon on the excitement of games against Palace and Brentford or might Reading really scale the heights and get Brighton and Bournemouth?

Benfica will be a good test. I suspect it might be a three half-hour period type of game, especially as both clubs will be in training camp mode. Shame we can't see it in person but oh well.

And if we end up hosting Brighton in a friendly I will be utterly aghast. They hate us and it used to be because we were better than them and had more going for us. Not sure I could deal with them coming down as the bigger team.

Could be Arsenal, seem to have a developing relationship with them?

I was hoping that Alex Rae could use his connections to persuade Rangers. I’d love to see them at the SCL. It would certainly be a full house.

No idea how reliable this is (or what it implies - guess it doesn't mean much in the scheme of things) but:

Boys were due back for pre-season training on Monday 20th June but they all received a text yesterday to say they can have an extra two days off and now need to report back on Wednesday 22nd. No explanation.

David Moyes’ West Ham United side will make the trip to Berkshire on Saturday 16 July at 3pm.

Reading FC will also host Maidenhead United at Bearwood Park for a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday 12 July, kick-off 1pm.

Why boring?

Played them last pre season. Would have rather seen us play Spurs or Arsenal. At least it isn't Swansea I guess.

Genuinely totally forgot about that.

Maybe the other pre-season game will one of the really big clubs/someone different.

I think I’ll give the 2 home friendliest a miss and go to Wimbledon and hope for a couple of other nice away games at interesting places.
