paultheroyal Be interesting to see the goals conceded tonight by Southwood. 8 shots on target and let 7 in.

11 goals conceded in 3 games. Ouch.

Cheltenham fans seem to mainly be blaming the awful defence, but it cannot be doing much for Southwood's confidence.

He should really be expert in playing behind awful defences by now.

Highlights are on ITV at 10.30pm on Thursday.

It’s my understanding that NGW only has a one year contract but he looks like he’s going to develop into a really good LB/LWB. Are we allowed to offer him a longer deal midway through this season if he continues to improve? It’ll be just our luck that he has a great season and then gets snapped up by someone else next year.

Impossible question to answer. We don’t know what the situation will be mid season.

There is likely a clause allowing us to extend but if not, yes, we would be able to offer a new deal as long as, if we increase his money we remain within the agreed budget.

This is based on the situation now though - the EFL may be more flexible or less flexible with us as things go on depending on how we are tracking against the wage budget and overall losses.

Being as we offered multi year deals to the likes of Ince and Hutchinson don’t see why not - in principle at least.

In his defence, Exeter had an absolute field day down Cheltenham's left flank and he was massively let don by the defence but he was beaten at his near post too easily by the 3rd and 7th, the 6th was a bit reminiscent of the goal he conceded against Hull and at times, he looked like someone had nailed his feet to the goal line.

JLow:

Big news from Ince today is that's he's hopeful of Sarr being involved on Saturday for #readingfc.

Ejaria out for 'four weeks minimum'.

Search continues for a new LB - one is lined up at a Premier League club so Royals are just waiting for that club's approval.

James Earnshaw:

https://mobile.twitter.com/james_e1871/ ... 7738979328

- Ovie out for at least 3-4 weeks

- Moore back around the training ground, reckoned he'll be fit November at the earliest

- Ince hopeful of Sarr before Sat, if not next week (I saw him at Bearwood so he's defo there)

- No injuries returning for Sat

So basically hanging our hat on Sarr to be ready for Saturday, less than 48 hours to go. Would be a big boost for us if that can happen, same with the LB, the sooner we get that done the better and that will help us massively.

Then it's really just a case of pushing Puscas out of the door (unless that's done to enable Sarr's move, unsure though) and bringing in O. Hutchinson and then plug gaps wherever we can.

Is that Newcastle bloke (El Mhanni?) still trialing/training with the club ?

Funny you should mention that... The Mail Online are reporting he is. Picked up by Talk Reading:

Yasin Ben El-Mhanni is still on trial with Reading but is attracting interest from Premier League and other Championship clubs.

If Sarr is going through and Hutch nearly back, and Clarke a LB and McIntyre can play there and NGW is looking good, why do we need another LB?

Because that equates to 1 left wing back with 3 games for us and a totally unknown teenager.....

Well coz NGW is still relatively untested and isn’t the best defensively from what we’ve seen, Clarke was in port vale u18s 3 months ago and it isn’t the other’s positions

Clarke was poor in the first half on Tuesday - certainly improved but against a better side could have been a major issue. Not sure he isn’t a CB by trade anyway

Wouldn’t say it’s the end of the world if we can’t get another LB but ideally we would

Sounds like Baba is the LB under consideration

Be ideal in a 5 at the back

Yep, according to Ghana Soccer Net, he only wants to stay in England - options are us and WBA. Would be a loan apparently.

Because Clarke is nowhere near ready and will be loaned out so you can discount that one for starters. McIntyre is also not a left back and will be competing for the centre back slots or holding midfield so you can discount that one too. So that hopefully asks your question.

McIntyre's also not a midfielder. If he is competing for DM, where we have four or five other options, he can compete for LB, where he played much of preseason, and has probably played more than midfield.

So we can agree he can play centre back and that's the position he fights for - so that means we have one recognised left back (who was league one level) and the need to get another in.
