New Coaches

by Stranded » 21 Jun 2022 12:23

Tony Warner joins the club from Bristol Rovers as GK coach. Worked with Ince previously at Blackpool.

Also joining as first team coach is James Oliver-Pearce from Wimbledon. Is a highly thought of coach, just 31, who clearly impressed Bowen during his short spell there.

Hopefully both prove to be good appointments.

Gilkes and Leigertwood return to their roles in the Academy.

Nice to see Ince and Bowen bringing in some familiar faces with them, can hardly hurt us I don't think. Difficult to judge the ability of a coach from the outside here, ultimately it will be reflected in performances and results.

Warner much loved at Bristol Rovers - acknowledged for their massive improvement in their keepers over past season and a larger than life character.

Dont know nothing about the other lad but perhaps forward thinking and can relate well to the core team.

I see this as another positive step in terms of the club’s infrastructure. Gashead mate really rates Warner.

Interesting. Bittner, the old GK coach, who took over from Bibbo had only been in the role 2.5 years. Probably not been our best ever era for goalkeeping.

Intrigued as to what happens with the medical team. Presumably Josh Bowen will keep his job, but Matt Hirons has been at the club for a long time. You do wonder if someone will pay the price for last season's injury toll.

Oliver-Pearce is an interesting appointment

Very young relatively, no first class career of his own to mention, long time with the Wimbledon academy, where he appears to have been very influential. Only been with wimbledons first team for half a season

Does seem very much a modern coach. Put it this way, very much doubt the calls for going 4-4-2 old school will be answered…

I think it’s a good appointment. It must surely mean the focus is on the academy and bringing those boys through. It could be a great move for Camara, Clarke and co

Tony Warner was at Liverpool for a while in the 90s and then I think rocked up playing for Millwall in about 2000.

Hopefully Oliver-Pearce can bring Jack Rudoni with him, or ask Mark Robinson for a loan or 2 from Chelseas U21's

Oh it's that Tony Warner, reckon that's a good appointment. I'm still mildly convinced the start of our unravelling as a club (such as there has been) was when Clarke was allowed to sack all the backroom staff including Sal Bibbo.

Great to see a GK coach. Iirc we got a defence coach too recently?

Decent changes going on.

Just need to get a couple more physios perhaps.
