Masters Football

Just watching the repeat of todays Southern Masters with such players as Craig Maskell, Michael Meaker and Clive 'Flasher' Walker alongside some unknowns like Zola, Poyet and Wise!!!

This got me thinnking about a possible Reading Masters team. I was thinking the classes of '86 and '95 could do us proud. How about..

Westwood, Hicks, Beavon, Bremner, Quinn, Lovell, Gilkes, Lambert.

I too was wandering if we'd feature in any of these Master's tournements soon.

Hislop (they allowed fat boy Windass to play while still a pro), Wdowcveck (terrible spelling), Hicks, Bremner, Gooding, Gilkes, Taylor, Lovell, Morley.....

Clearly the days of 'big teams only' in the Masters - Hartlepool featured a few days ago!

IIRC the likes of Shaka, Gooding, Quinn, Lovell, Gilkes have all played for other teams in Masters, so it isn't inconceivable that we could get a willing team together.

I work at the same place as Lambert and I can confirm he no longer plays and smokes a lot - he'd struggle I reckon, although he did score a cracking goal against Forest if I remember correctly.

And Nottingham Forest are in the 3rd tier, how come they have a team at these masters? What are the criteria for a team to compete in this tournament?

:?

Wolves won the midlands final - captained by Mick Gooding playing along side a certain Scott Taylor!

Given Scott joined us as a trainee he should definitely be a founder of our masters team. Add to that the likes of Neil Webb, Lawrie Sanchez and Steve Wood and we are starting to get a pretty tasty looking team.

- Forgot to mention Steve Richardson as a definite and possibly Stuart Beavon? Keeper anyone?

Just had a look at the FAQ of http://www.mastersfootball.com and I found this:

Players and Teams:
- How are the Masters teams chosen?
Masters teams are chosen based on Premiership/Championship status and location, with regards to where the particular event takes place.

- How are the Masters players chosen?
Masters players are chosen by the PFA (Professional Footballers Association) based on a number of criteria. Many of the players take part in Vets teams for their clubs and an effort is made to ensure each Masters team is made up of those players that contributed as much as possible to their respective club. Fitness, age and availability are also taking into consideration with the goal of maximising each team's potential.

So this means that Rotherham, Notts County and Nottingham Forest should not have been competing in this tournament.

Er, he's a manager, he won't have the time to play in a summer tournament. I think.

Unless he gets sacked.

We fielded 2 11 a side teams plus subs for the Legends match on the official promotion celebration day, so the legends are out there.
