Match PreviewWigan (H) 30th Jan.............and Predictions

by Joe » 18 Jan 2007 11:53

Reading v Wigan Athletic
Tuesday 30th January
Madejski Stadium, 8pm kick off

Reading will be hoping to overturn our 1-0 defeat at the JJB in August http://www.royals.org/matdoc/260806.html and attempt to stop the most recently founded team in the Premiership being the first to do the double on us this season. While reading have often been heralded as "this year's wigan" any observer or reporter looking further than both teams success in their inaugrial season in the premiership will notice a distinct contrast.
While both clubs have chairman who have built new stadiums and dictated a desire for premiership football the approach has been somewhat different. When Wigan lined up for their first premiership game against Chelsea in 2005 only 2 of the starting eleven from their previous games 3-1 win over Reading were on show. Reading contrastingly stuck with 10 of the players who played against QPR in their final Championship match for their first premiership match against Middlesbrough with only the injured Bobby Convey missing out.

In previous meeting honours have been fairly even with Reading winning 12 and Wigan 13 (out of 33). At home however Reading have been dominant winning 10 from 16.

Match Odds: TBC

Recent Form: (As of 18/1/07)
Reading: DWLDLL
Wigan: LLLLLL

Wigans Top scorers:

Camara, H 6
Heskey, E 5
McCulloch, L 3

Referee: STEVE BENNETT(Kent)

Questions to Wigan Fans:
1.) What have been the main difference / differences between this season and last (i.e why are you finding it more tough going)
2.) Who has been performing outstandingly this season?
3.) Who hasn't been performing as well this season for you?
4.) Last season you got more points away than at home and this season (before Everton) an equal amount? Why is this?
5.) Emile Heskey. . . Good or Bad?
6.) Where do you see Wigan's future?
7.) What do you see as Reading's future?
8.) What do you think the score will be when the two teams meet?
9.) Do Wigan have any famous fans, intresting facts etc?

If you can't be bothered to read

this

the general comments are that they lost a lot of good players since last season, they no longer attempt to play good passing football and they no longer seem to have the same passion. They all think Emile Heskey is pure class, think we will find it much tougher next season. They see their future as highely dependant upon who they purchase in the next transfer window. There is also some discussion as to famous fans with names such as Michael Gorbachev, Kim Marsh and the wizard from lord of the rings. These are spurious at best.

Cheers Joe .Although Wigan are really struggling just now they will still provide formidable oppostion and they will be desperate to smash and grab something from us given their drop into serious peril.
I just hope we make up for our poor showing at the JJB which I had the dubious pleasure of experiencing. Early days but i`ll be looking at a close 2-1 win for this one.

No better time to ask the 'Pie or Pasty?' question, or alternatively 'Northern Soul or Disco?' - go back

Thank you for that heavyweight input, that is sure to lead to 5 pages of fascinating debate.

Oh wait, it was pointless.

Some of them say Henri Camara has been poor this season but whenever I've watched them he has been the most dangerous threat to opposition and he is a lot better player than Heskey or McCulloch.

Convey did play that day - it was Glen Little who was missing (& replaced by Soel).

1-1

Lita and Heskey the scorers. Oh and can I say that after the utter embarassment of Wigan away this season when the Reading crowd barracked Heskey with chants of "If Heskey can play for England so can I" for him to then score in front of us, please don't bother on Tuesday week.

Thanks

We have won every game at the Mad Stad this year, and see no reason for that to change.

3-0
