First Choice CB pairing

by Binfield Royal » 20 Aug 2007 00:20

When everyone is (eventually) fit to play, who are our 1st choice centre backs?

I suspect any mix would do a good job but if they're all fit, you can only have 2 * so who are they?

* assumes 442 or 451

Really depends on our opposition and whose fit, IMO.

I'm sure Coppell prefers Doobs and Ivar when he needs expeirence and will play them against the top teams.

If it is an 'easier' opponent he might bring in Sonko and Ivar.

If they are all fit I reckon Coppell will start playing Bikey in a defensive midfielder role.

Sonks and Ivar at the moment with Bikey pushing hard.

Don;t see Duberry above the 'cover' role and worry that Sonks and Bikey as a pair might be a little too 'exciting' !!!

Big challenge to replace Ivar at some point.

Ingimarsson and Sonko.

However Bikey and Sonko would be a very formidable defensive unit.

If all fit and in form then I think Ivar and Sonko are still the top partnership.

Hopefully, by the Ivar is needing to be replaced young Pearce will have developed into a carbon copy of the calm Mr Dependable Ivar and will ultimately replace him.

Obviously we'll probably lose Sonko or Bikey by then if they've continued to improve and perform to the level of a top Premiership defender.

Ingi and Bikey all the way for me at the moment. Ingi is a constant performer in our team and I can't see his skills aging in the next year or so.

Bikey is in the Sonko mould but his distribution and calm under pressure seem to edge it for me.

I still want to see Sonks return to the team but I think he'll have a tough time at the moment as Bikey has been immense in the CB position.

Duberry is cover and whilst he is good for the role, I don't see him as a second option for the position.

Sonko is the finest physical specimen this side of Krypton, Bikey is hopefully going to develop into somebody who can partner him but I wonder who of the two would be in charge. Ivar's the boss at the back right now so is automatic pick number 1.

At the moment it has got to be Ingi + 1 (Probably Sonks) I agree with the earlier post that BK could play as defensive midfield or do a specific job when we play the big boys away from home.

My thoughts entirely - Ivar is the brains whilst Sonks or Bikey provide the brawn.

Sonko was a fine physical specimen, and I truly hope that he will return to that form. However, given his injury the jury will be out until we see that he can repeat the crunching tackles and the salmonesque leaps we know and love so well.

Ingi, Sonko, and Bikey - nice selection problem to have.
